Finding Books

• Library Catalog– Search from the subject headings– Request a book from another campus

• OhioLink – Request a book from another library in Ohio

• Worldcat– See local public and academic library

catalogs. Useful in a pinch when you may not have time to wait for book delivery

Keyword vs. Subject vs. Title

What is the difference between a keyword and a subject?

Do a search in the catalog for the same word using all three of the above limits.

Subject

Title

Keyword

Keyword

• Keyword • The cataloging is looking for anything that will

match the sequence of letters that you entered (including misspellings, singular, plural – the catalog will NOT correct these things Nor will it think for you.

Subject

• Subject • The computer is looking for your sequence of

letters, but only within the Subject (about) field. It is not looking for the letters in the title, or description (keyword) boxes.

Title

• Title• The catalog will only look for your entry in the

TITLE field…

Keyword, Subject…Boxes? Fields?

Citing in APA Style

Academic Search Complete

• This is a very broad and general database with journals, magazines, newspapers, and other sources that represent all sorts of academic and non-academic disciplines.

• Psychology and Behavioral Sciences uses the exact same search interface as Academic Search Complete.

Academic Search Complete

Narrow by Subject and Academic Journals

I found my articles… so now what?

• Add the items to your “folder”

• Open your “folder”

• Select one, two, some, or all

• Email them to yourself.

Citing in APA Style

How to cite your work?

• APA style: http://library.osu.edu/sites/guides/apagd.php • Citation Machine: http://citationmachine.net/

• Most Databases will also provide an APA citation

You need to take the reader of your work as close as possible to the article that you are citing. You should not leave the reader with any doubt as to what you cited.
