How to Create a Beautiful Kitchen from

Start to FinishBy Kori Marker

Step 1: Attract the Customer

When working with customers, you have to sell your personality and expertise to the potential customer. They need to have faith in you that you can make their dreams come true.

Step 2: Select the Cabinet Manufacturer, Door Style, and ColorDepending on the customers budget and expectations, you must choose the best cabinet line for them. Then, they must choose samples of stain/paint color and door style to take home, so they can see it in their own light.

Step 3: Make Appointment to Measure Set up a day and time that you can go to the customers house and see the space. Then, you have a better idea of lighting, and you can give them tips on how to make their space flow with other rooms.

Step 4: Measure

When you go to measure, be sure you take every measurement! You don’t want to get back to your desk and realize you forget one essential part.

Step 5: Create the Layout

With the 20/20 CAD system, all you have to do is insert your walls. After that, you can start plugging in cabinets and it will tell you how much room you’ve taken up and how much you have left.

Step 6: Make an Appointment with the Customer to Come Look at Your DesignAfter you have created, in your opinion, the best layout for your customers space, give them a call and make a time that they can come in and take a look and make any changes that they may want.

Step 7: Ordering

Most companies want you to order online or by fax. Most importantly you have to make sure you choose the correct wood species, finish, and construction. Then you input all your SKU’s for the different cabinets. Be sure to add the extra trim pieces that may not show up on your design.

Step 8: Delivery of Cabinets

On the scheduled date of delivery, you should be the first one on the job. The delivery truck should never beat you. As the company is unloading, check off each cabinet to make sure you received all of them.

Step 9: Installation

Installation is not your job. But you must supply the installer or the homeowner with a copy of the design so every cabinet is in the spot where you planned it.

Step 10: The Finished Product

As a designer, sometimes it is hard to install faith in new customers that you can do a wonderful job. So, after every job, try to get a few pictures to show future customers some of your previous designs.
