The „Deutsche Hydrographische Gesellschaft e.V. [DHyG]“ was founded in 1984 as an independent, non-profit making, non-governmental, learned professional society.

It provides a forum for all those involved in activities related to hydrography and associated disciplines and encourages and promotes the development of the hydrographic science, profession & industry.

DHyG encompasses a wide range of disciplines and activities and does not represent the interests of any particular industry sector.

• Hosting annual Hydrographic Conferences and Workshops(latest one was the HYDRO 2010 Conference & Exhibition)

• Publishing quarterly Journal "Hydrographische Nachrichten"(in electronic and print version)

• Sponsoring student programmes and individuals

• Promotion of dedicated quality label „Anerkannter Hydrograph“

• Public promotion of Hydro/Geo Sciences through national and international cooperation of various „ Hydro/Geo Associations“

• Contribution to the „National Masterplan - Maritime Technologies“
