A ty los tom a tricolor (Mik, 1883), a species new to the fauna of tachinid flies (D iptera: Tachinidae) of Poland

Abstract: First record ot Atylostom a tricolor (MlK) from Poland w as described. Previous inform ation records of th is species from Europe were sum m arised.

Key words; Tachinidae, A tylostom a first record, Poland

T achin idae is a parasitic family of Hies, developing w ithin different arth ropods, m ainly within insects. Till now 470 tach in id species have been recorded in Poland (D r a b e r - M o ń k o 1991).

A tylostom a tricolor is a m em ber of Leskiini tribe, th a t is rep resen ted in the Polish fau n a by 11 species belonging to 5 genera (D r a b e r -M o Nk o 1991). A tylostom a is the 6-th of the genera recorded in Poland. In Palaearctic, one m ore species from Atylostom a genus is know n i.e. A. tow andensis (M a t s u m u r a , 1916) from E ast Siberia, Far E ast and O riental Region (H e r t in g , D e l y - D r a s k o v it s 1993).

Atylostom a tricolor is a very rare eurosiberian species (Ts c h o r s n ig , H e r t in g 1994) whose single specim ens have been found in m any p a rts of E urasia .

In Europe, Atylostom a tricolor occurs in A ustria, Belgium, Byelorussia, F rance, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sw itzerland and W estern R ussia (Luga n ear St. Petersburg). Available records of A. tricolor are p resen ted in Table I and Fig. 1. In Asia, th is species h a s been recorded in C au c a su s (H e r t in g 1984), Baikal: Vitimsk province (R ic h t e r 1975), Far East: S akhalin (HERTlNg 1984), U ssuria (K o l o m y e t z 1975, S h im a 1992), Kuril Islands: K unash ir (H e r t in g 1984) and Ja p an : Hokkaido (H e r t in g 1984).

The knowledge abou t the biology of th is species is very scan t. Atylostom a tricolor develops within the caterp illars of Eurrypara hortulata L. (Lepidoptera: Pyralide) ( H e r t i n g 1960 ) th a t feed on com m on nettle (Urtica dioica). A. tricolor h a s one generation in a year: V I-V III ( T s c h o r s n i g , H e r t i n g 1994 ).
