“Now  that  I’m  a  Christian  Class”  3/2/16            6:00-‐6:45          Session  3—Component  1  Abide  in  the  Word

We  are  talking  about  what  Jesus  says  are  true,  known  and  proven  DISCIPLES.    They  Abide  in  the  Word  (John  8:31-‐32),  Love  One  Another  (John  13:35)  and  Bear  Much  Fruit  (John  15:8).    (If  you  missed  session  1  or  2,  ask  your  facilitator  to  give  you  the  handout  we  used  and  connect  you  with  a  person  that  could  discuss  it  with  you.)    Have  each  person  in  the  group  quickly  share  their  name  and  one  thing  they  know  about  Jesus  or  the  Bible.    ROOT  of  the  Ministry:    The  daily  transformation  of  all  the  members  as  a  result  of  abiding  in  God’s  Word.  • Roots  hold  the  tree  in  position  and  draw  nourishment  from  the  soil.  • What  do  you  think  it  means…to  feed  on  the  Word  of  God?  …to  be  a  self-‐feeder?  • Why/How  do  you  think  the  Word  of  God  provides  stability  in  life?

The  Bible  Story  for  tonight—Matthew  7:24-‐29—The  Man  who  Built  on  the  Rock  (chart  on  back)  An  individual  will  tell  the  story…the  group  will  retell  the  story…then  answer  questions  below:  • What  were  the  two  types  of  foundation?    Which  is  the  better  foundation?  • Was  the  difference  in  the  foundations  more  about  HEARING  the  Word  or  about  ACTING  on

the  Word?    Explain  what  was  similar  again.    Explain  what  was  different  again.  Match  the  column  on  the  left  below  with  the  description  on  the  right  by  connecting  a  line…  Hearing  the  Word*                      *Lifestyle  (The  Word  Abiding  in  You)  How  does  my  life  line  up?  Acting  on  the  Word*                      *Bible  Study  Plan  (Abiding  in  the  Word)  What  is  God  saying?

A  Life  Story  for  tonight—Tell  us  about  your  Bible  Study  (Time,  Place,  Plan).    How  long  have  you  been  abiding  in  the  Word?    How  has  the  Word  of  God  changed  your  life?

P.R.E.S.S.  personal  abiding  agenda  (This  is  what  your  daily  appointment  with  God  looks  like!)  Pray-‐-‐Ask  God  to  HEAR  from  Him.    Recognize  this  is  an  appointment  with  God.  Read-‐-‐According  to  your  personal  Bible  Study  Plan.                          (Suggested  Bible  Study  Plan  bottom  line  below)  Examine-‐-‐What  is  God  saying?  How  does  my  life  line  up?                          (The  plan  suggests  a-‐slow-‐chapter-‐a-‐day)  Summarize-‐-‐Write  out  a  short  summary  statement  or  key  prayer  point  to  ACT  on  the  Word.                            Meditate  on  this  throughout  the  day/week.    Don’t  just  go  through  the  text.    Let  the  text  go  through  you.  Share-‐-‐Share  this  during  the  day  “for  your  good”  as  a  way  to  meditate  &  better  process  the  Word.  Share  in  Sunday  School,  in  your  FFG,  &  w/  believers  for  their  good.  Share  w/  non-‐believers  to  plant  seeds  for  their  good.                                                                    Mon  (Law)  Tues  (Prophets)  Wed  (Writings)  Thurs  (Gospels)  Fri  (Teachings  of  the  Apostles)  Sat  (Sunday  School  Text)

Monday   Old  Testament  Law  (Genesis)  Tuesday   Old  Testament  Prophets  (Joshua)

Wednesday   Old  Testament  Writings  (Psalms)  Thursday   New  Testament  Gospels  (Matthew)  Friday   New  Testament  Teachings  of  the  Apostles  (Acts)  Saturday   Sunday  School  Text  Sunday   Sunday  School  and  Corporate  Worship

The  Core  Challenge  of  the  Church  is  producing  lives  transformed  by  the  Word  who  do  their  part  in  the  whole  body  and  scatter  the  seed  modeling  LIFE  IN  CHRIST  and  molding  others  to  do  the  same.

“Don’t  just  go  through  the  Bible…But  let  the  Bible  go  through  you!”
