Definition of Sexual Harassment

is a form of sex discrimination that can occur at work, school and university or in social settings.

Is any unwanted or unwelcome sexual behavior which makes a person feel offended, humiliated, or intimidated

Sexual harassment can be written, verbal or physical. Both males and females can be the victims of sexual harassment.

How it can affect employees?

Health Effects: negative consequence both in their private lives and relating to their job, psychosomatic symptoms, loss of self-esteem, and interference with private life.

Behavior Effects

How it can affect employees?

Financial Effects: including loss of wages because of taking sick leave or leave without pay from work or as a result of the termination or transfer of employment.

Attitude Effects

Example of Sexual harassment:

Unwanted jokes, gestures, offensive words on clothing and unwelcome comments and repartee.

Touching and any other bodily contact such as scratching or patting a coworker’s back, grabbing an employee’s ability to move.

Repeated requests for dates that are turned down or unwanted flirting.

Example of Sexual harassment:

Transmitting or posting emails or pictures of a sexual or other harassment-related nature

Displaying sexually suggestive objects, pictures or posters

Plying sexually suggestive music

How to solve the problem?(Sexual harassment)

There are a few ways to deal with sexual harassment

You can talk to the harasser if you feel comfortable about it. Tell them what you think about what they are doing and ask them to stop.

Making a complaint to someone in your organization-perhaps a manager or supervisor.

To lodge a complaint with the Anti-Discrimination Commission
