Using sloodle in DE courses

• What is sloodle:

SLOODLE (Simulation Linked Object Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment) is an Open Source project which integrates the multi-user virtual environment of Second Life® with the Moodle® learning-management system. Sloodle provides a range of tools for supporting learning and teaching to the immersive virtual world; tools which are fully integrated with a tried and tested web-based learning management system used by hundreds of thousands of educators and students worldwide.

Using sloodle in DE courses

• Objectives of using sloodle in DE courses:

Enhances the existing support for learning and teaching through integration with the Open Source Moodle learning environment.

Provides a range of tools for supporting learning and teaching to the immersive virtual world; tools which are fully integrated with a tried and tested web-based learning management system used by hundreds of thousands of educators and students worldwide.

Using sloodle in DE courses

• Researches and rise concerns:

• “One of the things that I’m most excited about is a mash up between Second Life and the learning management system, Moodle. Its called Sloodle." - Joe Miller, VP Platform, Linden Lab

• Many other ..........

Using sloodle in DE courses

• Case studies:

3- Ministry of education in Oman is training some of their faculty on sloodle.

1- An international cultural-exchange between Korea and Dubai has been detailed in a case study.https://www.sloodle.org/blog/?p=13

2- Sloodle at the university of the west Scotland: outlines some of the ways that SLOODLE was used by tutor and students to support teaching, learning and collaboration in the classes. Using sloodle in DE courses

• Expected Outcomes of using sloodle in DE courses:

• SLOODLE tools provided support to tutor and to students in teaching and learning.

• Students‟ themselves made effective use of SLOODLE tools in supporting group work activities and for presenting their own work to other students around the world in a short period of time, without having to first become conversant with object creation and editing in the virtual world.

• ………..etc.

Framework of EvaluationKirkpatrick’s Model

1. Reaction• Is the use of sloodle in DE leads to the needed objectives. (relevance of the objectives)

• Are the provided courses able to maintain learners interest. (ability of the course to maintain interest)

• Are sloodle courses provide the required level of interactivity. (appropriateness of interactive exercises)

• Are learners able to navigate and use sloodle courses easily. (ease of navigation)

• What is the learners attitude toward sloodle courses. (perceived value)

Framework of Evaluation

Kirkpatrick’s Model

2. Learning:

• Does learners achieve the proposed objectives out of the course provided through sloodle.- Knowledge (about sloodle)

- skills (of using sloodle technology)

- attitudes (toward sloodle as educational technology)

Framework of Evaluation

Kirkpatrick’s Model

3. Behavior/Transfer in the Workplace:

• Has the student’s behavior changed as a result of using the new technology. (conducted three to six months after the program)- Are the learners still using sloodle in their DE courses.- do the learners develop any new skills using sloodle in their DE courses.

Framework of Evaluation

Kirkpatrick’s Model

4. Results:

• Do managers and decision-makers understand the effectiveness of using such technology.• Do the want to use it again and for what:- increased production and interaction between learners through the use of sloodle in DE courses.- improved quality of DE courses.- decreased costs of delivering DE courses.- profits or return on investment out of using sloodle in DE course.
