Life on the Goldfields

• The Houses they lived in, The different work done by men, women and children, Dress, Transport, Tools, Food and water, Leisure activities, Education, Bibliography.

Housing

• Most people who went to the Goldfields lived in tents.

Different work done by men, women and children.

The men on the Goldfields would dig, the women would make Food and Drink, and the Children would help.

Dress

• On the Goldfields the women dressed in dress type clothes, and the boy’s dressed in almost the same clothes.

Transport

• The poor that traveled to the goldfields would travel by foot or camel, and the rich could travel by carriage.

Tools

• On the goldfields you would need a pan or cradle if you were going alluvial, picks, shovels and windlasses.

Food and water

• Most people drank tea and ate mostly mutton and damper, fruit and vegetables were very rare.

Leisure Activities

• For leisure they played quotes, marbles and jacks.

Education

• Schools on the Goldfields were just ordinary tents. in the winter they would leak, and in the summer it would be so hot.
