Putra-NEDO EV Bus Demonstration ProjectBackground of Project
PGC2025 has identified 12 actions to turn Putrajaya into a sustainable low carbon green city by 2025 with one action namely, Low Carbon Transportation, to be one of the measures to be implemented
In 2011, NEDO with the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology & Water of Malaysia, conducted the Putrajaya Green City Action Plan Study with Japan Research Institute (JRI) appointed to carry out the study with the assistance of a consortium of eight Japanese private companies. The study provided low carbon city road maps for Putrajaya covering:◦ a. Building and Energy
◦ b. Urban Transportation
◦ c. Waste Management
◦ d. Urban Environment
The objectives of project
1. To introduce a low carbon green public transportation system in Putrajaya in line with the aspiration of Putrajaya Green City 2025 to turn Putrajaya into a green technology city by 2025.
2. To demonstrate the technical and economic effectiveness of use of EV buses and the charging technologies in Putrajaya utilizing Japanese energy storage and fast charging technologies.
3. To create a model for future environment friendly smart urban communities in Putrajaya.
4. To broadly disseminate and promote the results of the demonstration project in Malaysia and outside of Malaysia.
Putra-NEDO EV Bus Demonstration ProjectCurrent status of project
8 EV Buses have been delivered to Putrajaya and has successfully undergone series of link test including on route test drive
4 super quick chargers and 1 quick charger have installed on site
2 EV Buses will be assembled in Malaysia by a local bus manufacturer in the near future
Commercial commissioning is expected to be implemented on 8th of June 2017
The demonstration project is expected to be completed within a year to: ◦ Verify EV buses operation: 25-30km operation followed by an about 10-minute charge, 7 times a day, for
most of buses
◦ Verify operating costs: energy, maintenance
◦ Effective maintenance supported by cloud-based information systems
PPj is anticipated to continue with the EV Bus operation for a period of 4 years after the completion of the demonstration period
The next stage of the project will be continued with the demonstration project involving 2 units of double decker EV Buses mainly used for tourism purposes in Putrajaya
Way forwardThe project is expected:
To contribute towards the achievement of PGC2025 targets towards the aspiration of turning Putrajaya into a low carbon green city by 2025
To contribute to Malaysian Automotive Policy of 2000 EV buses by 2020
To contribute towards the Malaysian Government target for Malaysia to become an ASEAN EV Hub
