Paul Rand Lecture Ser ies Poster Our assignment was to design a large posterfor a hypothetical lecture series by our favori tefamous graphic desi gner. We were given differentconstrain ts for each composit ion. The objectiveof the project was to explore typographicstructures , text h ierarchy, and communication.

Singer Posters Th e im ag es of ea ch ar ti st we re cr ea te d by me . Th e Tay lo r Sw if t pi ec e wa s pa in te d wi th wa te rc ol or sand the Katy Perry piece was drawn with coloredpencils . In each poster I focused on enhancing each art is ts s ty le demonstrated in a specific song.

In Taylor Swifts case, I focused on the song Come in with the Rain. To enhance the s ty le

of the song, I used watercolors and cool colors togive a cool and rainy feel ing. I also added thesong lyrics in the background to make the posterfeel l ike a d iary because most of Taylor Swiftssongs are personal and expressions of her feel ings.

In regards to Katy Perry, I focused on the song California Gurls. I chose bright and heavily

saturated colors to suggest the mood of thesong. I only drew the top of her shirt to imply the song without being too obvious.

It in troduced me to the processand procedures that occur in v isual research,ideation, and design of v isual communicationof instr uctional information. I chose to v isually show how to perform a burpee exercise.

Designing th is p iece involved researching thesteps of a proper burpee and narrowing theinformation s teps down to five s teps. Otherfactors I had to take in to considerat ion werethe direct ion of the figure, adding the shadow,deciding on the outfi t , where to add shading,and choosing which muscles to h ighlight .

Fine Ar t My self portrai t was done in colored pencils . It ried to create a s ty l e s imilar to Van Goghs s ty le.I wanted to emulate h is sketchy look and use of bright colors .

Leaf Logo I designed a logo based on a leaf I found outs ideof my dorm room. I s tarted my project by taking a photo of the leaf and then used the photo asa reference for my logo. I h ighlighted the sharppoints , but kept a few curved l ines to g ive theleaf a sense of movement. The curves werecoordinated with the sharp points in order to g ivethe logo a feminine appearance with an edge as I

envis ioned the leaf as a logo for a womens outdoorclothing company. When adding color, I chose

colors which were d ifferent from the orig inal leaf because I wanted to g ive the logo an icy andwinter appearance.
