I am a student doing a double major in Graphic Design and Game Art and Design. I have been drawing and designing as a hobby for approximately 7 years, and I am very passionate about my work. Over the last couple of years I have done graphic design jobs for small busi-nesses and commissioned art for various individuals.

Currently I study full-time at Murdoch University in Western Australia. I am a first year student and I aim to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in 2019.

For these images, light use of motion blur, cropping and colour adjustment were used to try and achieve an enhanced look.

This image was a more extensive exercise that involved using all sorts of theoretical and practical skills to create a warm and unifying image. A reflection and description of the creative process that was written upon the creation of the image is shown below:

“The base original image was a picture of a sunset. The photo was taken from Grif-fith Park, and the subject of the photo is Century City. It was uploaded to Pinterest by discoverlosangeles.com. It’s a nice picture with it’s own interesting layering effect, where the hills in front of the city have a crisp black silhouette and the city itself has a more faded gradient effect. This layering made the image itself look more dynamic and made integration a more interesting task, as the hill was avail-able to be played with, by adding silhouettes on it.

“My first goal was to add elements to the image. Because the hill was available, I wanted to add a few people to give the image more life. Due to the nature of the lesson, I didn’t need to get images of silhouettes: I very well could have got-ten pictures of normal people, used the lasso tool to isolate them from the back-ground and then use those, but I used silhouettes anyway. I tried to get different densities of groups for variety. After that, I decided the negative space in the sky needed some more action as well. I felt like hot air balloons were a good fit for the “inspirational quirky Instagram picture” vibe the image was leaning towards, so I went ahead and added those. Next I decided to add the birds in v-formation - that would add some more life to the picture. At this point I wasn’t sure where to go so I checked the exercise brief to see what I was missing, and I forgot about ad-justments. I adjusted the levels and added a gradient map to affect the colours and lighting. After doing this, the image felt a lot warmer and more dynamic. There wasn’t much light to offset the dark, though, so I added a subtle lens flare that I rendered in Photoshop. At this point, I felt there was little I could add. To add to the aforementioned vibe and make the image more aesthetically pleasing, I re-cropped the image and added the black bars to the top and bottom of the image. Tam suggested I added text, and I thought that if the photo wasn’t in Instagram picture territory yet, text would definitely push it into that. I looked up “sunset quotes” because I wasn’t sure what to use, and instead of going for something in-spirational, I went for something simple and complementive of the aesthetic of the image - “Sunset is still my favourite colour.” At first I had this on the scenery but it felt too intrusive, regardless of the blending effects I put on it, so I moved it on top of the black bars with a simple gradient overlay (using the same gradient I used for the gradient map).”

InDesign was the software used to produce this image. A travel magazine cover was chosen as the source image was from an exotic location. My understanding of Bali

helped influence the text.
