CROATIAN PROVERBS

GREEK PROVERBS

Greek: O filos stin anagki fainetai. English:A friend in need, is a friend indeed. Meaning: You realize who is your true friend when you go through a rough time in your life.

From Greece ( Draviskos)

• Greek:Βάζω νερό στο κρασί μου.

• English: I put water in my wine.

• Meaning: I compromise, I tone things down, I settle for less.We use it when we have a disagreement with someone and we want to show that we are willing to compromise in order to avoid a bad situation.

• Greek: Ο χρόνος είναι χρήμα.

• English: Time is money.

• Meaning: We use this proverb

when we want to stress the importance

of doing things immediately and avoid postponing them over and over again. "Act now!" is another translation of it.

LATVIAN PROVERB

• Runāšana sudrabs, klusēšana zelts. (Latvian) • Speaking is silver, silence - gold. (English) • Silence is often gold because many times people speak when they

should just shut up. Speech is silver but silence is gold. It is better to remain quiet than speak. (Meaning)
