Great Wall of China

• To build the Wall, Shi Huangdi ordered famers to leave their fields and merchants leave their stores to form an army of 300,000 workers.

Dark Side• Emperor Shi Huangdi also tried to

control the thoughts of his people.

• He outlawed the ideas of Confucius and other thinkers.

• He commanded that all books in China be burned except those about medicine, technology and farming.

• Hundreds of scholars protested the order and Shi Huangdi had them all killed.
