A TERRITORY music pro-moter wants financial sup-port to bring Barbadian popstar Rihanna to Darwin aspart of her Diamonds worldtour this year.

Rihanna, 25, will take theshow to five Australian cit-ies in September and Oct-ober, stopping off at Perth,Adelaide, Brisbane, Mel-bourne and Sydney, before asixth show in Auckland.

White Eagle Entertain-ment owner and founderColin Nichaloff — who wasresponsible for bringing hiphop artist Ice Cube to Dar-win last year — said he wasin talks with Rihanna’s man-agement to add the Top Endto the tour.

‘‘They have offered (Dar-win) September 20 or 21,’’ MrNichaloff said.

The singer’s team report-edly quoted a performancefee — excluding securitycosts and venue hire — ofmore than $1 million.

Mr Nichaloff would not

confirm or deny the figure,but he said having Rihannain Darwin would be worth ahefty price.

‘‘It would be good for theTerritory, good for the peo-ple and it would be good toget the Darwin communityinvolved,’’ he said.

Mr Nichaloff said he want-ed local businesses and theNT Government to come onboard as major sponsors andthrow their support behindbringing the star to Darwin.

‘‘If a lot of local businessesget together they could con-tact me and we can figuresomething out to get Rihan-na here,’’ he said.

Mr Nichaloff said he want-ed the concert to be held atTIO Stadium, Marrara.

‘‘My plan is just to get Ri-hanna to Darwin. Thatwould be great — if not Dar-win misses out,’’ he said.

In eight years, Rihannahas sold an estimated100 million albums world-wide and is currentlydominating the charts withher latest single Diamonds.

Anger atdoorstepdeliveryDARWIN shopkeepers aredisgusted by the latest itin-erant outrage.

Clare McDonald arrivedat work yesterday morningto find a man had squatteddown on the front doorstepof her shop and then gone tothe toilet.

He had then hurled hisjocks away — and they hadlanded on the door lock.The landlords sent a clean-ing team in immediately.

Ms McDonald, 41, whohas managed the mobile ac-cessory shop in SmithStreet Mall since 1996, saidthat she was revolted by thetoilet incident.

‘‘It’s vile,’’ she said.‘‘The cleaners did a fan-

tastic job.’’Many traders now say

that drunken and antisocialbehaviour has increaseddramatically in the citycentre during the pastfew months.

But Ms McDonald said it-inerants weren’t normallya problem.

‘‘There’s a brawl a coupleof times a week,’’ she said.

‘‘And they humbug anddrink. But we’ve all becomeso used to it that we don’tthink that’s too bad.’’

The owners of the VivaLa Vida tapas bar, which isjust around the corner fromthe mobile phone shopwhere the latest incidenttook place, described Dar-win CBD as a ‘‘war zone’’.
