Description

The music sector has a value of almost £4 billion in revenue and employs more than 100,000 people in the UK. The UK is one of only three countries in the world which can lay claim to being a net exporter of music in the world. The sector also contributes significantly to other sectors, including tourism due to almost 8 million visits by music tourists made annually, and the sector continues to be a driver of growth in the digital technology sector.

The range of BTEC courses allow students to study Music in a vocational style. It is a very practical course which motivate students and caters for all learning styles.

• BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Music is equivalent to 1 A Level

• BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Music is equivalent to 2 A Levels

Students are able to choose which they would like to study. The Diploma will equate to them choosing two options due to the amount of learning hours required by BTEC.

Course Content The course consists of practical sessions, lectures, workshops and live

performances covering a range of skills and knowledge and consists of

core and specialist elements.

Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma pathway units may include:

• Solo Performance

• Pop Music in Practice

• Composition

• Theory and Harmony

• Aural Perception Skills

• Functional Music Keyboard

• Working and Developing as a Musical Ensemble

• Improvising Music

• Sequencing Systems and Techniques

Level 3 Diploma in Music pathway units may include:

• Solo Performance

• Ensemble Performance

• Singing Performance Techniques Music Performance Techniques

• The Music Industry

• Music and Society

• Contemporary Song Writing Techniques

• Special Subject Investigation

• Major Music Project

• Music Events Management

• Music and Sound for the Moving Image

• Music Production Techniques

The units delivered in this course are tailored to meet the needs of our

students and to use their strengths.

Assessment All assessment is coursework based and there will be vigorous deadlines

which need to be met to help ensure that students meet their goals.

Opportunities

BTEC Level 3 courses in Music allows students prepare themselves for

working in the music industry or to progress onto studying music at

university. This could lead to working in the following industries:

• Performer

• Composer

• The Record Industry

• Music Industry Touring

• Music Events Management

• Music Education

• Music Therapy

• Music Industry Merchandising

• Instrument Repair and Development

• Television

Music also prepares students to be confident in their abilities as well as

developing a wide range of skills. Not just music based but also to help

improve written skills, aural skills, presentation skills, research skills and

many more.

Information

In September the Music department will have a fully functional recording

studio which students will also learn how to use during their time here.

Along with this there are many opportunities to be able to perform within

the school and at external events as our current Sixth Form have done.

The department also aims to take the students on at least one visit. Each

year we enjoy taking the students to visit the Royal Albert Hall for a

concert.
