• John Adams: John earlier served as the first

vice president of the United States.

• George Washington: George was the first

president of the United States.

• New England: Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island.

• Middle Colonies: New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. • Southern Colonies: Maryland, Virginia, North

and South Carolina, and Georgia.

• Milliner: Makers of shifts, gowns, aprons, and

cloaks.

• Shoemaker: A trade practiced in America

since 1610.

• Weaver: Weavers grow in prominence when

embargoes ban imported cloth.
