What is A Personal
Brand and Why Is It So
Important?
“ALL ABOUT WHO YOU ARE AND
WHAT YOU WANT TO BE KNOWN
FOR” Forbes.com
WHY SHOULD YOU BUILD
YOUR PERSONAL BRAND?
Creating a vision for your future and implementing that
vision will:
Help you build the foundation for future success; however you
define it
Open up more professional opportunities (better job)
Win more clients
WHAT IS YOUR BRAND?
Have you ever thought about how you want
other people to perceive you?
What's your reputation?
“Oh Brad? Oh he is that insane party-animal that is always cracking jokes.”
OR
“Oh Brad? He is that incredibly driven Construction Manager that specializes
in new home development projects.”
Which would you prefer?
SO…..
How do you come up
with a brand??
Who you are
What you offer
Where you are going
Branding is about you:
If you’re looking to grow the sales for a company, you
want potential clients to associate your personal brand
with a feeling of trust and long-term success and
satisfaction.
People Do Business with Who They
Know and Trust
INTEGRITY
If you’re looking for a better job, you want your potential
boss at your ideal company to associate your personal
brand with something that she needs on her team.
STAND OUT
BE YOURSELF
Everyone else is already taken
In today’s job market and entrepreneurial landscape, there is no
room for being another face in the crowd. You have to separate
yourself from the competition. You have to be more appealing
to your target audience and you can achieve it by creating a
recognizable personal brand.
3 Steps
Create Your Brand Points
Write Your Brand Story
Be Consistent with the Message
Start with your Brand Key
Points
What were Brad’s?
He is that incredibly driven Construction Manager
that specializes in new home development
projects.”
Construction, new home development, driven
Write down as many words as you can think of that you want people to associate with
you..
Write Brand Story Communicates the three questions in an extended
version of your brand points:
Who you are
What you offer
Where you are going

!Remember!
You only have 7 seconds to make a first
impression. 10 seconds to gain someone’s
attention (elevator speech).
Appearance is your first impression, not
what you say. May not seem fair, but is
reality. We all do it.
When you feel good about yourself, you
naturally convey confidence and a positive
attitude.
Be yourself because everyone else is already taken
Always stand out – Be recognizable or memorable
Be Consistent
Have passion and be happy – enthusiasm and excitement
Business Etiquette
This is the first time in
American history that we have
had four different generations
working side-by-side in the
workplace.

Disrespectful of the inviters time if you cancel for a scheduling conflict.

Business LunchAt the lunch:
Turn off your phone.
Don’t show up starving.
Don’t order the most expensive item on the menu.
Ensure your order is easy to eat and still have conversation.
Come prepared with a few casual, non-business topics in mind – helps avoid the awkward silence
Always be kind to the wait staff, no matter what happens. It reflects how you are in business.

At a BOMA Luncheon it is not appropriate to hand out business cards to everyone. Wait until asked. However, always carry business cards in case you are asked for one. Have your personal number on the card, not a general phone line.
Send a short note to anyone who gave you their contact info. Usually, someone who hands you a card or gives you their information is inviting a follow-up.
Wisdom from the Elders
I periodically hear “I don’t know how you can stand
the property management business, isn’t it nothing but
problems?” If you have that perspective, you should
find another business. I don’t see it as dealing with
problems, I see each situation as an opportunity to
build a relationship and be a hero of sorts. You have
the power to solve someone’s problem and the power
to create and determine the energy at your buildings –
it is up to you how you use your power. Leave your
personal mark on your buildings.
Success is a goal. Excellence is a passion
Don't be scare to say you don't know!
Meet as many other professionals as possible so you can seek out peers for advice and help.
Learn as much as possible.
Listen more than you speak.
Train people well enough so they can leave. Treat them well enough so they don’t want to. ~Sir Richard Branson
“What would you do, if you knew you could not fail?”
Foster the relationship of the people who report to
you. Learn from them
Treat everyone the same – Janitorial to CEO
Be mindful of social media
No chest hair
Keep Calm and Carry On
Two tickets to Disneyworld that say “Celebrate
Everyday”
A poster of a fox in the middle of a pack of
hounds that say “look straight ahead, keep
your mouth shut and say nothing”
Suggested reading “The Hitchhiker’s Guide
to the Galaxy”,
Photo of a new Jaguar
My real mantra seems to be what I found when I took the earth
day quiz on google, I turned out to be a mantis shrimp, which
translates to “Mysterious and beautiful, but not afraid to use my
powerful claws to attack, stun and dismember prey”
You can’t be in the right place at the right
time. You have to be in the right place ALL
the time.
Everything you do is a
reflection of your
Personal Brand!
What will the world see
as your reflection?
