VARIETY, THE CHILDREN’S CHARITYThe task was to inject life into a tired charity brand and
bring The Variety Club of Great Britain up to date with
new branding, fresh marketing material and an image
that would connect with the younger donors and raise
the level of donations.
This was carried out over a period of time and
bought to market as a “soft” launch.
We were responsible for the concept and
management of the brand creation, the brand
guidelines, digital media presence and all printed
collateral.

HAMMERSMITH ACADEMYHammersmith Academy is one of the UK’s new breed
of Schools and demanded a radically fresh brand
identity.
We were responsible for all aspects of the brand
origination and roll-out, from a “white-paper” brief
through to the final launch day.
We now manage the on-going marketing support for

SHIMANO
The total rebranding and packaging of all Shimano Bicycle
parts coming from Japan and entering Europe.
Considerable research told us that Shimano was a premium
range with high brand awareness, suffering from poor
packaging.
In order to provide a fast remedy and gain valuable shelf
space we opted for a brand and packaging strategy that
gained ownership of the colour “Silver” in the market sector.
This did one of many things; it gave immediate stand-out, it
supported the brand statement of a premium product and
more importantly the colour silver stands out in dark retail
environments (common throughout Europe)

CONVERSE
The pan-European launch of the Converse AllStar
shoe to the Youth Market.
Position and increase brand awareness and create a
leading-edge fashion icon, in order to establish the All
Star as a leading “cult” footwear and apparel label.
Launched on a controlled marketing budget the
CONVERSE ALLSTARS have now become an
essential part of every young persons wardrobe,
throughout Europe.
In keeping with the Style Press campaigns, a highly
targeted PR and Editorial campaign was launched,
endorsing the American heritage of the brand.
With the success of the performance range in the
ath-leisure arena a series of specialist sports ads were
produced to appeal to the technical/performance
audience.
The successful integration of a Basketball
shoe into the UK fashion arena was a particularly
difficult task, as basketball does not even feature as a
minority sport!
However, the athletic endorsement proved to be
inspirational enough to become the stepping-stone for
a range of 30 more models

The introduction, management and implementation of
individual and range designs for Europe’s largest “one
price” retailer.
Understanding the “deep-discount” market is a
complex task and we prepared a range of “own-
brand” packaging templates that would raise the
perceived product value and provide a stronger
in-store presence.
We produced packaging “range” concepts across
most of the product sectors - including Tools, Baby
Products, Hair Products and Stationery.
The introduction of the product ranges saw a dramatic
increase in “cross-purchasing”, an increase in basket
value, a higher percieved product value and increased

The design and creation the new-look Lee
Cooper stores to reflect the changing image.
Once the design was approved, we were briefed to
source the manufacture and then provide the Project
Mangement for the Stage One roll-out.
After considerable research we decided to place the
European build with manufacturers in Lithuania and
the Far Eastern production in China.
We then managed the Stage One global roll-out
commencing with Europe.
There were three catagories of store - Flag Ship,
Shop-in-Shop and Outlet - each one reflecting the
overall global image.
The result was:
A raised High Street awareness and
presence. Increased sales and deeper penetration into
evolving markets.

MUNRO SHOES
Munro Shoes are based in Hot Springs,
Arkansas, USA and are well established in the
US middle market female shoe sector.
The objective was to update the existing brand
imagery & identity and prepare the company for a
launch into the European marketplace.
The company was keen to retain its American heritage
and with this in mind we prepared a brand message
that was flexible enough to cross the Atlantic.
Beginning with a brand mark that maintained some of
the existing feel and heritage, we captured the
internationality that the European launch required.
Having achieved this we then rolled the identity out
across all media.
The result was heightened brand awareness in the
local market, increased sales and new target group
sales (younger market).

A. S. WATSON HONG KONG
As the leading Hong Kong one-price retailer 8 MART
wanted to expand into other S.E.Asian markets.
However, the name would not “travel” as all items
instore were 8 $HK and the corporate colours (red and
gold) not acceptable.
The solution was very simple, but highly effective.
8MART became SMART!
The imagery was modernised and fresher, brighter
colours introduced.
A strapline of BE SMART! BUY SMART! SAVE SMART!
was introduced to support the new imagery.
We redesigned the 8 MART brand to allow it to be
used across all SE Asian territories.
This increased the perceived value of the store and
unabled it to move away from the fixed pricing
strategy.
The result was successful launches into S.E.Asian
markets, increased sales, higher brand perception and
an increased basket value.

LATTELEKOM
We launched digital telephony and the internet into
Latvia, by way of targetted, below-the-line and guerilla
marketing.
By producing a marketing and media strategy that
supported the telecommunications aspect and then
a series of Roadshow and launch events throughout
Latvia to inform and educate the business and
consumer groups.
This programme was successfully implemented
over a three month period.

WHO ARE WE?
ANDREW CROSS Using his international ad agency background, Andrew has worked across a range of major brands in areas such as rebranding retail chains, fashion lines and restaurant groups. He has also developed youth-directed campaigns for major fashion brands and Government organisations and, most recently, a complete re-branding of the UK charity, Variety.
Andrew created Zuzumi to provide clients of all sizes with access to top communications expertise without exposure to big agency overheads.
