JULIE DASH
Julie Dash is the first African American woman filmmaker, author and member
of the L.A. Rebellion. Her film Daughters of the Dust was the first full-length film
by an African-American woman with general theatrical release in the United States. Dash has also made numerous music videos and television movies,
including The Rosa Parks Story.
CHERYL BOONE ISAACS
Cheryl Boone Isaacs is the first African American to serve as President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Isaacs was serving as the
board’s Vice President when she was elected for a one-year term as president
of AMPAS in 2013, becoming only the third woman and the first African
American to hold that position in the 86-year history of the academy.
