ALetterfromourPresident,RachelBerkalAsachapter,BetaEtahashadoneheckofayear—fromtheDistrictLeadershipConferencetoGrandConvention—wehavebeenverybusy!WestartedofftheyearwiththeannualDistrictLeadershipConference.SinceDLCwasheldinAnnArbor,wehostedadinnerpartyforallthemembersoftheDistrictIVteamtowelcomethemtoMichiganandkickofftheconference.WewereluckyenoughtowelcomeClaireBrownGwaltney,theInternationalPresidentatthetime,intoourhomefordinner,asshewastheGrandCouncilmemberassignedtoDistrictIVforDLC.Attheconference,BetaEtareceivedawardsofexcellenceinmanyareasincluding,membershipeducation,recruitment,andscholarship,justtonameafew.

DuringthesummerIhadtheprivilegeofattendingthe2011“DiamondsintheDesert”GrandConventionwiththreeofmyfellowExecutiveBoardmembersandseveralBetaEtaalumnae.Asthisyearmarkedthe160thAnniversaryConvention,theweekendwasatrulymemorableexperience.WemethundredsofalumnaeandfellowsistersandexperiencedAlphaDeltaPionawholenewlevel.ButwhatmadethisconventionespeciallyexcitingforBetaEtawasoureligibilitytowintheGoldenLion.

Asachapter,weworkedtirelesslythroughouttheyeartoproduceanamazingAwardsPacket.AtConvention,weanxiouslyawaitedthefinaldinnerbanquetwhentheGoldenLionwouldbeawardedto

thedeservingchapters.Oncetheawardsbanquetwasfinallyuponus,wewerehardlyabletoeatandnervouslysatthroughtheawardsceremony.FinallyMrs.GwaltneystoodupatthepodiumtoannouncetheGoldenLionchapters.“BetaEta”wasthefirstnamesheannounced!Wewereecstaticand(continuedonpage4)

BetaEtahasbeendoinggreatphilanthropicworkthispastsemester,continuingonintothissemester!Lastsemester,theBetaEtachapterfundraisedalmost$15,000forthelocalAnnArborRonaldMcDonaldHouse.WeputonourannualMr.GreekWeekcompetitionfortheentireGreekCommunitytoparticipateinduringUniversityofMichigan's2011GreekWeek.Thefollowingmonth,inApril,weheldourLion'sShareChallengeevent,AlphaDeltaPicnic.Thiseventwasincrediblyfunandsuccessful!Wehadanall‐you‐caneatpicnic,servinghotdogs, hamburgers,veggieburgersandmore!WereceivedtonsofsupportfromtheGreekCommunity,andmanygirls' familiescametosupportaswell!(continuedonpage3)

TheHouseCorporation(ofwhichyouareamember)ownstheHouse,andtheBoardofDirectorsiselectedtomaintainthehouseandthepropertyofBetaEtaChapter.TheBoardmembersareMaryJoClark,LauraNapiewocki,BarbaraKunkel,BarbaraKehbein,CindyRoss,AnnClinger,AllysonParkerandthreecollegiatemembers‐theChapterPresident,theChapterVPofFinanceandtheChapterPropertyManager.Withoccupancyoverthelastseveralyearsatcapacity(68),theBoardhasbeenabletomanage,maintainandupdatetheproperty,insuringthatourwomenhaveagreatplacetoliveduringtheircollegiateyears.Thissummer,wereplacedallthewindowsanddoor‐wallsinthehouseexceptforthethirdfloor.Weareexpectingenergysavingsandofcourse,morecomfortableroomsforourmembers.Wealsoinstalledacompositefencearoundtheparkinglot,whichprovidesamoresecurearea.Afutureimprovementprojectwillbetorenovatethekitchen.Also,duringtheADPiConventionin

DearAlumnae,

TheBetaEtachapterofAlphaDeltaPihadafabulousrecruitmentthisyear!Weworkedlongandhard,throughtheheatofwelcomeweekandthelatenightsduringthefirstfewweeksofclasses,butitwasallworthitbecausewenowhave57wonderfulnewAlphamembers!

RecruitmentbeganonSeptember11,thedayafterouramazingwinoverNotreDameatthefirstnightgametoevertakeplaceatMichiganStadium.ThiswasgreatfortheBetaEtachapterbecausethisyear’snewfirstsetthemewas“FootballSaturdaywithAlphaDeltaPi.”TheentirehousewasdecoratedinmaizeandblueandforasnackwehadpopcornmixedwithblueM&M’s.WeusedtheactualpopcornfromMichiganstadium.Delicious!

ThesecondsetthemewasAlphaDeltaPicnic.Theentirechapterworedifferentcolorsundressesandwedgesandals.Thepotentialnewmemberssippedonlemonadeastheywentonhousetoursandsawsocialandfinancialpresentations.

PreferencePartieswentverysmoothly.Weserveddiamondshapedcheesecakeandeverywomaninourchaptermadeascrapbookthattheyshowedtothepotentialnewmembers.Thepreferenceceremonywasverytouching.TearswereshedasthewomenofourchaptersharedtheirloveforeachotherandAlphaDeltaPi.

WhenBidDayrolledaroundeveryoneinthehousewasexcited.Ourmembersliterallyjumpedinthe(continuedonpage4)

PhilanthropyUpdate,continued…Thissemester,afteraverysuccessful2011recruitment,wehavebeenworkinghardtointroduceournewAlphastoADPiphilanthropy!WearecookingdinnerattheRonaldMcDonaldHouseeverymonthandhaveseveralupcomingevents.Weareco‐hostingacharitybeachvolleyballtournamentwithAlphaDeltaPhiFraternity,AlphaDeltasPIke:ServiceintheSand.Wealreadyhavetonsofinvolvementfrommembersofthecommunityforthisevent,andweareveryexcitedforit!WearealsoworkingwithChiPhiFraternitytofundraiseforHabitatforHumanity,sowecangovolunteerwiththemlaterinthesemester.WelookforwardtoallofourupcomingeventsandthefutureofourphilanthropicprogramhereatBetaEta!
