Psalm 63:2, 3-4, 5-6, 8-9
Galatians 3: 26-29
Luke 9: 18-24
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke:
Once when Jesus was praying by himself, and the disciples were with him, he asked them, “Who do the crowds say that I am?” They said in reply, “John the Baptist; others, Elijah; still others, ‘One of the ancient prophets has arisen.’” Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter said in reply, “The Christ of God.” He scolded them and directed them not to tell this to any-one. He said, “The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised.” Then he said to all, “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.”
Focus Questions:
1. Where do you go to be alone with God?
2. Who do you say Jesus is?
3. Describe a time when you had to pick up your cross.
Family and children’s question:
Jesus invites you to get to know him better. As a family talk
about how you accept Jesus’ invitation.

FR. ANTONY’S LETTER
Dear Friends,
Feast of our Patron, St. Thomas More.
Today is our Parish Feast! Happy Feast to all of us!
Let us celebrate with praying for each other at the Masses,
Enjoy together as a Parish –Family at the Pancake Breakfast. This Sunday let us celebrate our Parish
Feast –the Feast of St. Thomas More under his patronage.
Our Patron used to say “love rules without rules”. Our Parish motto is “Sharing the spirit of love.” We are who
we are, not in what we have, but in what we are to each other. Again in the words of our Saint Thomas More,
“Kindness and good nature unite people more effectually and with greater strength than any agreements whatso-
ever, since thereby the engagements of people's hearts become stronger than the bond and obligation of words.”
Today’s Gospel reading reflects the same spirit of embracing each other and growing as a community without
passing judgement on anybody like Jesus did.
Our Patron’s feast is the feast of our Parish-family. Let us celebrate ourselves, our care and concern for each
other; our kindness and mercy, our forgiveness and sacrificing love, our good nature and pleasing attitude to
each other. Let us wish and pray for each other.
Drawing of Raffle Tickets after the 12:15 pm mass: The first prize is $10,000 dollars, the second prize is
$2000,the third is $ 1000 and the fourth is $ 500 The last minute sale is still on. Please rush for the lucky ticket.
$50 a ticket; three for $100. I thank those who have already bought tickets. Your support is greatly appreciated.
Can evil become good? St. Thomas More, Man of Hope, wrote to his children in 1522, “While there is nothing
so neat and witty that will not be made insipid by silly and inconsiderate loquacity, so also there is nothing in
itself so insipid, that you cannot season with grace and wit if you give a little thought to it.” As much as evil can
have influence on good and change it to be evil, Our Patron Saint believed that the good can have influence on
the evil and change it to be good. As terrorism and wars become more and more widespread everywhere these
words of St. Thomas More call us to work for peace and security by cultivating the spirit of changing evil into
good. Let us pray to our patron that we may cultivate good deeds, good behavior and spread good influence.
With love and prayers,
Fr. Antony

If you have a service member or know of someone who is

added to this list, please submit their names through the col-
lection basket or the Church Office. If a soldier has re-
turned, let us know.
PARISH OUTREACH
Outreach has begun collecting “sample sized” toiletries for the homeless. Anyone wishing to contribute
should wrap them separately and place them in the food bins in the Narthex. We will get them to the right
people. Many thanks for your help.
In your weekly supermarket shopping, perhaps you could drift by the meat counter and pick up a package of
chicken cutlets specifically for an Outreach donation…it would be greatly appreciated by our clients who are
working with just a hot plate or a microwave, but no full-sized oven. Of course, if you have other items to do-
nate, they would be greatly appreciated as well. Perishable items should be brought directly to Outreach Mondays through
Thursdays from 10 – 2. Other items may be left in the bins in the Church lobby. Thank you.
We are in urgent need of people who could occasionally substitute for one of our Outreach people who have to be out for a
day. If you could be one of these people, who are non-judgmental, pleasant, and discreet, please give Outreach a call and
set up an interview with Mary Anne. We also need people to occasionally deliver food or take people to doctors’ appoint-
ments. Thank you for any time you can give us.
She got a job at a bakery because she kneaded dough…
St Vincent de Paul Conference Thank you for your continued prayers for your conference at St. Thomas More, and for our neighbors in need. Your prayers
keep us strong in our commitment to aid those in need.
HOW WE WORK: The St Thomas More SVdP Conference works closely with Outreach. When the need goes beyond
what they can do, they call us. Or, now that we have our direct telephone number (648-2760), we can be called directly by
a neighbor in need.
WHAT WE HAVE BEEN DOING: Can you ever imagine all of your belongings on the sidewalk, or in storage, and you
not having any funds to salvage them? That is what some people face who call us for
help. Your donations and prayers enable us to visit, evaluate, and help.
WHAT YOU CAN DO: Please use, and or give our telephone number to any neighbor who you think could use our help
(648-2760). Also please e-mail us at svdp:stm@aol.com with any questions or ideas that you think may be helpful. Visit us
on Facebook and pray for our conference that we may continue to “walk in the footsteps of Jesus.”
DONATIONS can be made as follows:
Checks: SVdP St. Thomas More Conference
Cash: place in an envelope that notes SVdP on the front, and leave at the rectory.
BECOME A VINCENTIAN:. The only requirement is to have a desire to help. Together, as a conference, we offer the
many skills and resources that enable us to assist those in need in our community. If interested, just call or e-mail us.

“Defending religious freedom has turned out

Lori
Testimony before U.S. House of Representatives: "Mr. Chairman ... (I) testify today on this matter of ut-
most importance to our Nation - religious liberty.
(I draw) an analogy between the HHS mandate - which
forces virtually all healthcare polities nationwide to
cover sterilization and contraception, including abor-
tion drugs, and a hypothetical mandate forcing virtual-
ly all restaurants nationwide to serve pork:
"It is absurd for someone to come into a Kosher deli
and demand a ham
sandwich; ... it is beyond absurd for that private de-
mand to be backed with
the coercive power of the state; (and) it is down-
right surreal to apply this
coercive power when the customer can get the same
ham sandwich cheaply,
or even free, just a few doors down." Archbishop
