27th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Made For Each Other

Underneath Jesus’ reflection on marriage lies the question of all human relations. That is a clue about why Mark followed the divorce question with the incident of Jesus and the children. When Jesus saw them disparaging the children, he reproached them angrily, not just for demeaning the children, but for missing the entire point of his teaching about the kingdom of God.

Jesus would have none of it. Human beings were made in the image of God and an offense against one of the least is equal to an offense against whoever is considered greatest. Jesus’ reception of the children reminds us that as adults, one of the hardest lessons we have to learn is how to receive love. The kingdom of God belongs to those who can receive it as undeservedly and as happily as children who simply accept the tender nur-ture that helps them grow into all they can be.

Tailgating Party

November 3, 2018

6:00 pm in the Parish Hall

Fall is in the air and it is time for a Tailgating Party,

November 3rd after the 5PM mass in the Hall. We

are looking for 10 spirited teams this year! It

doesn’t matter if you’re a Duck or a Beaver Fan or if you’re a Timbers or Trailblazer fan, sign

up for your favorite team. You can decorate your table if you choose, but it’s not required,

then serve you’re favorite tailgating food. Flyers are by each door of the church with an

entry form. Also we will be featuring the Wine Wall as well as a Beer Wall so start shopping

for Wine ($15 value) and Beer ($4) to donate for this event. We will have our fabulous

Raffle Baskets once again, so consider donating a Raffle Basket. This year we want to

feature more themed dinners to buy. Please consider donating a dinner. This year the

funds will support our Music Ministry.

Any questions? Contact Deanna Nibler at 503-805-8765 or email [email protected].

WHAT IS BREAKING BREAD?

Breaking Bread is a Parish Program open to all adult members.

It is an awesome opportunity to meet other members of our Parish community in a relaxed, stress-free, fun environment. When you sign up you will be put in a group with 6 or 8 people, and take turns being the hosts during the next few months. This is a way to get to know people you only see at Mass. You host once and are a guest at the other dinners. Don’t worry about being a good cook-this is not a cooking contest. Costco’s lasagna works.

Please call the office if you would like to join this group.

Gobble! Gobble! This year will be our 5th Community Thanksgiving Dinner in St. Cyril’s Parish Hall. All are welcome on Thursday, November 22nd between 12 and 2:30PM. Whether you volunteer, dine or do both, we are sure you will enjoy the meal, the camaraderie, and the blessings we all share.

Each year we try to extend our invitation further into the community and this year we hope to have an arti-cle in the Wilsonville Spokesman in November.

As in the past, we rely on you to identify any homebound members of the community who could enjoy a delivered meal. Maybe you could be the contact person to deliver to a family or individual, but either way, we want to know!

Anointing of the Sick

The weekend of October 20 and 21 we will celebrate the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick. Usually those who choose to be anointed are people who are seriously or chronically ill, having impending surgery or elderly people who have become notably weakened. This sacrament will be administered at all the Masses and can be received more than once.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

AND

YOUTH MINISTRY

October 7, 2018 Page 6

CONFIRMATION PARENT MEETING

We welcome our youth to our Confirmation Program. Confirmation is a new beginning in one’s life of full par-

ticipation and responsibility in the Catholic Church. As one of the Sacraments of Initiation, it is an amazing sign of

God’s love and presence in our lives. The Holy Spirit will help you become a more mature follower of Christ as you

walk in His footsteps. Students must be high school age, and have participated in the previous year of Religious Ed-

ucation here, or at a Catholic School or Church to register for Confirmation. Those in the program will attend clas-

ses about Confirmation and their faith life, be a member of our High School Youth Group, and come to Mass weekly.

There is also a weekend retreat some time during the year. Teens should do service hours in the community or here

at church. Catholic Baptism certificates must be included in your registration materials with your payment for youth

group unless your teen was baptized here at St. Cyril. We are having a Confirmation Parent Meeting on Sunday,

October 7th at 11:45 AM in the Fireside Room to cover the requirements and schedule for the year.

Pray the Rosary with Song… October 13, Saturday, 4 to 4:30 pm.

Local composer, Aaron Thompson, has put the prayers of the rosary to captivating and meditative melodies. Come and join our voices to sing the rosary during the Month of the Rosary, October. You are also welcome to stay for the Vigil Mass at 5 PM. St. Juan Diego Parish, 5995 NW 178thAve, Portland, OR, across the street from the PCC Rock Creek Campus on Springville Road. The rosary is sung on the second Saturdays of the “even” months. We look forward to singing the rosary with you. If you have any additional questions, please email Kathy Yee at [email protected] Thank you. Composer Aaron Thompson

Dear Pastor,

I liked your sermon where you said that good health is more important than

money but I still want a raise in my allowance.

Sincerely,

Hi St. Cyril Grounds Clean Up Team!

2018 Fall Clean Up: It is time to get the church grounds tucked in for winter. We are hoping to get to this before the rains move in - that

may not happen but perhaps most leaves will be on the ground.

Saturday, October 13th, 2018 from 8:30 - 11:30 AM...RAIN OR SHINE. St. Cyril Church.

Most of the jobs include raking, branch management, light pruning, debris pick up and a true favorite - weed control, including blackber-

ries. However, the bulk of the work is raking. We have a limited number of church supplies - anything you bring makes the job much more efficient – especially wheelbarrows. Please join us for however long you are able. If you bring your own tools, PLEASE LABEL them, so

they can find their way home. Lunch will be provided.

Any questions, please contact the church office (503.682.2332) or Sarah Geisler (503.705.8826)
