Greetings Area 6
Members, Advisors,
Alumni, and Fans! My
name is Britany DuVon
and I am your Area 6
President for the second
year in a row. I am a
senior at Kennewick High
School. As a second year
officer, I have many ideas to
implement in our Area to
make it the best it can be.
This year, I plan on
publishing this newsletter
every month, starting an
Area Spirit Award, and
continuing programs from
last year such as: Member of
the Month, Kids Carnival,
and Senior Prom. DECA
keeps me busy but
sometimes you can find me
baking, watching Family
Feud, or drinking coffee.
Never hesitate to contact me
via Facebook or email. I
know this is going to be an
amazing year for Area 6.
Hello Area 6 DECA! I’m Ashley
Hampton, and I’m your 2012-
2013 Area Vice President! I’m
currently a senior at Richland
High School, and serving as
their DECA Chapter President
for the school year, along with
being a part of National Honor
Society and Key Club. I also like
to ski, play tennis, and take
photographs, among other
things. Area 6, let’s make this
year one to remember, and
ASCEND to new heights!

Other ways to get points...
Inside Story Headline
Spirit Award! The purpose of the Area Spirit Award is to get members, advisors, and chapters as a whole more involved in activities. A chapter wins by having the most points in their spirit award “account” at the end of the DECA year. Points can be obtained in multiple ways such as; attending an Area event, “liking” the Area 6 FB Page, sending Britany a picture of your
DECA Chapter, having a chapter visitation, or being the fastest email reply to any email updates Britany sends out. The winning chapter is given the trophy, shown at the left, to keep in their DECA classroom for the following school year. The trophy will be engraved with the school name and winning year. My hope is that future Area 6
President’s will continue the Area 6 Spirit Award, therefore the trophy will be a “traveling” trophy and have many different school names on it. The points for each chapter will be shown in each newsletter. If you ever have any questions about how your chapter got those points, ask Britany!
Spirit Award Points:
Chiawana - 17
Grandview - 0
Hanford - 13
Kamiakin – 0
Kennewick - 1
Pasco – 58
Richland - 4
Southridge - 2
**The Area President’s home chapter can only earn points for events that do not require the Area President’s attendance.

Hello Area Six!
My name is Amy Rosi and this year I will be the Washington DECA State President! I am a proud
senior at Kelso High School and have spent the past four years in DECA! I absolutely love it, and I
hope that you do too! Last school year I served on the officer team with Britany while serving my
own area, Area 9! You are so lucky to have a wonderful two time Area Six President. I can assure
you that you are in safe hands. :)
Britany has told me much about you guys… I hear about all the success you have in your Area, along
with the wonderful outings and exciting community service projects that get put on throughout the
school year. Not to mention that incredible cruise at SCDC… :)
I can’t wait to be a part of Area Six DECA, but I can only do that if I get the chance to be involved
with you! I would love to come visit your chapter either with Britany, Mr. Cooper, or just myself! If
you would like to schedule a visitation with me I would be more than happy to discuss it with you
and your advisor!
I have two favors to ask of you Area Six DECA… First, give a HUGE thanks to your Area Six President!!!
She sure is a hard worker and is highly dedicated to serving you. Secondly, I ask that when the
opportunity comes to take pictures, do!!! Once you take them, please send them to me! Your
chapter will then be involved with the online scrapbook I will be creating of Washington DECA’s
year together! All you need to do is give me your chapters name and give a brief description of the
photo.
Please feel free to send me any pictures, comments, questions, or visitation requests! My email is
amy.rosi@wadeca-officer.org. I look forward to hearing from you! Remember to take advantage of
the opportunities given to you through this amazing association. Lets make this year the best year!
May your dreams come true Area Six!
Sincerely,
Amy Rosi
Washington DECA State President

Chapter Visitations
Are you wondering why Pasco DECA has so many points for the Spirit
Award? It’s because they invited Britany to their officer retreat, which
counts as a chapter visitation, which is 50 points! Britany would love to
come to any chapter/officer event you’re having so you too can earn
those points.
Here’s how you can schedule a visitation:
1. Consult with your advisor about having Britany attend
2. Contact Britany via Facebook or email
3. Figure out a date that works for both parties
4. Earn 50 points towards your Spirit Award account!

Ronald McDonald House Charities
V O L U M E 1 , I S S U E 1
Washington DECA has proudly supported the Ronald McDonald House
Charity every year for about 5 years. The RMHC job is to provide a “home-
away-from-home” experience for families of sick children for little to no cost.
Families are asked to pay $25 a night, but if that is not doable, they never turn
the family away. That’s where Washington DECA steps in. At FLC & SCDC we
have “Miracle Minutes” which bring in about $2500 dollars! Think about it:
that’s providing 100 families with a free stay at the RMH.
Every year the WA DECA State Officers set a monetary goal to raise for the
House and this year we’ve decided we, as a state, will raise $25,000! But we
can’t do this without your help. Volunteering at the house, having drives, or
participating in your Area & State “Miracle Minutes” all contribute to the
$25,000 goal.
Also, at WRLC & SCDC Washington DECA will be collecting Ziploc Bags for the
RMHC! Please remember to bring yours, OR, host a drive of your own (receive
spirit award points) and send them to the house!
Did you know?
Only about 10% of
McDonalds’ profit
goes to help the
Ronald McDonald
House Charities?
