New technologies and processes have created nano-sized respiratory hazards.

Additive manufacturing processes such as 3D printing have shown to generate nano-sized, ultra-fine particles (UFP).

When heated, the plastic filament emits particles containing ABS, PLA and other composite materials into the air.

UFP is a respiratory hazard and, when inhaled, can travel through the nasal passages and deposit onto the lungs.

A portable fume extractor equipped with HEPA and Carbon filtration works to capture both particles and chemical fumes commonly encountered during injection molding and extrusion. By using a portable system, the unit can easily move along the molding machine where fumes are emitted.
