V1.0 Oct. 2017 Competensis BIZBOK modelling with Archimate

• www.bainstitute.org▪ A Value Chain disaggregates a firm into its

strategically relevant activities in order to understand the behavior of costs and the existing and potential sources of differentiation.

• WIKIPEDIA ▪ A value chain is a set of activities that a firm

operating in a specific industry performs in order to deliver a valuable product or servicefor the market. The concept comes through business management and was first described by Michael Porter in his 1985 best-seller.

• Could also be used to build an ontology

• We are missing the cardinality between concepts that provide the core business rules

BIZBOK Page :

BIZBOK definition : Product line : a series of different products which form a group, all made by the same company. A Product is part of Product Line.

• For Product line, I use the AGGREGATE relationship.

• For Product family, 2 solutions : COMPOSITION or SPECIALIZATION

Policy Map

V1.0 Oct. 2017 Competensis BIZBOK modelling with Archimate62

BIZBOK Page :

BIZBOK definition :

• A policy is a guiding principle used to set direction in an organization.

• It can be a course of action to guide and influence decisions. It should be used as a guide to decision-making under a given set of circumstances within the framework of objectives, goals and management philosophies as determined by senior management.

• A policy is also defined as a course of principles of action adopted or proposed by a government, party, business or individual..

Policy Map

V1.0 Oct. 2017 Competensis BIZBOK modelling with Archimate64

BIZBOK Page :

• I think we should simplify and consider a policy as a set of principles contributing to a goal. Achieving the goal would require some courses of actions/initiative.

• In Archimate 3, we are missing some INFLUENCE relationship between the Principle (POLICY) and the Course of Action (INITIATIVE) : the Principle influences the Course of action (and not only the reverse as shown).
