2012 ANNUAL REPORT 3
Fellow LACS Members, Luxembourgers, Families and Friends:
Moien!
Eleven years ago, a small group envisioned the building of a Luxembourg American Cultural Center in Belgium, WI. This required a leap of faith in that the cost of such an undertaking required a commitment of support from the Luxembourg Government and many friends, businesses, families. To move the project forward, a local bank also believed in the vision and provided a loan to build the facility.
While the LACS has always met and exceeded the payments on this loan, the LACS Board of Director’s top goal was to retire the debt in 2013. I am happy to announce that we have met the goal as the debt was retired in the first quarter of 2013. We thank all of you that contributed to the building of the center and especially those that participated in the challenge to meet this 2013 milestone.
While this was a major achievement, there were many other significant achievements in 2012. Our membership remains strong and growing, there was a record number of visitors to or using the Center, the cultural exchange of artists and students from Luxembourg set a new record, the annual Luxembourg Fest of America is growing and our finances are strong. In addition, the LACS received a large donation of valuable art from Mr. Jean Lanners. These achievements can only be surpassed with the exciting news that construction of the New Luxembourg Town Square will begin in August, which will include the construction of a village hall by the Village of Belgium, WI.
None of this is possible without your support and the outstanding LACS team of Kevin, Sara and Marie. To all of you, thank you very much.
As we move into 2014, we will have face new opportunities and challenges. But I am confident that we will reach higher levels of achievements as we are all bound together by our Luxembourg heritage and as such, are great architects of our future.
Please take the time to review the Annual Report. I am confident you will be proud to be part of the LACS. I look forward to seeing you at the Fest and again thank you for your support. Wear your Red, White and Blue with pride.
Sincerely,
David Perrott

FroM tHELACS EXECUTIvE dIRECTOR
Dear LACS Members & Friends,
It is with great pride that we present this year’s Annual Report. It has been another action-packed, successful year with many mission-driven activities both at the Cultural Center and in our Luxembourg American regions throughout the United States.
The highlight of this year is certainly the retirement of the debt on the Luxembourg American Cultural Center in January 2013—nearly one year earlier than anticipated. The Center is now paid off and this puts us on an even stronger financial footing. Looking forward, the LACS is beginning the planning process to launch both a Planned Giving Program and LACS Endowment Fund in 2014. This will help us perpetuate our mission for generations to come.
In addition to retiring the debt on the Cultural Center, these are some additional highlights from this past year:
• Our4thannualDiscover Luxembourg Tour;
• SecuringofdonationofThe Jean Lanners Collection of 185 pieces of fine art;
• DevelopingregionsoftheLACSinAurora,IllinoisandCentralMinnesota;
• AnnualSounds of Luxembourg Concert Series with Luxembourg’s acclaimed pianist–Jean Muller;

What an amazing year it has been! None of these accomplishments would have been possible without YOU—our faithful and generous LACS members and friends. Let’s continue to work together to celebrate the ties we cherish between Luxembourg and the United States!
Gratefully,
Kevin Wester Executive Director

2012 ANNUAL REPORT 9
cElEBrAting tHE conclusion oF tHEROOTS ANd LEAvES CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
In 2007, the fledgling Luxembourg American Cultural Society began an exciting and somewhat overwhelming journey called the Roots and Leaves Capital Campaign. The goal of the Capital Campaign was to raise $1.6 million (U.S) for the building of the Luxembourg American Cultural Center. While some doubted it possible, hundreds of generous and committed donors, proud of their Luxembourg American connection, stepped up to the plate and made the dream for an international Luxembourg American Cultural Center, a reality.
Last year at this time the remaining debt on the Cultural Center was over $68,000. The hope was to retire the debt by the end of 2013. But thanks to the generosity of the family of our deceased Board member, Barbara Hames, along with three anonymous donors and others, the $68,000+ remaining debt was retired in January 2013! This marked the completion of the Roots and Leaves Capital Campaign and it reaffirmed the generosity of the hundreds of donors who over the past five years had sacrificed to build a living legacy of Luxembourg culture and heritage for generations to come!
The LACS Board and Staff extend its heartfelt gratitude to everyone who donated to the Roots and Leaves Capital Campaign over the past five years! The success of the Cultural Center belongs to all of you who showed such great support.
In addition to the $1.6 million raised through the Roots and Leaves Capital Campaign, the LACS continues to offer its heartfelt thanks to:
• TheGrandDuchyofLuxembourg/MinistryofCultureforitsgenerousdonationof400,000Eurowhichfundedalloftheexhibitpanels,artwork,andfurnishings for the Cultural Center including the Luxembourg American Family Tree sculpture

• ToCargoLux,FedEx,andKuehne+Nagelshippinglineswhoprovidedthein-kindtransportationtoBelgium,Wisconsinforallofthebeautifulitemsfabricated in, and donated by, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg
Without the immense generosity of the people and government of the Grand Duchy and the Ansay Family, the Luxembourg American Cultural Center would not be the $2.4 million, world-class wonder that it is. We are eternally grateful to all of our benefactors and friends.
Please note that you can continue to purchase commemorative Bricks, Pavers, Benches and legacy Panels to show your support of the upkeep of the luxembourg American cultural center. your continued generosity is greatly appreciated!

2012 AnnuAl FunD DrivE A RESOUNdING SUCCESS!
The LACS’ 5th Annual Fund Drive—This Place is Super Cool!—was a resounding success! The budgeted goal of the 2012 Annual Fund was $34,000. thanks to the generosity of 168 donors, we surpassed that goal by $1,712, raising a total of $35,712.
The Annual Fund is a vital part of the LACS operating budget. It helps offset the cost of programming, our Research Center, utilities, staffing, etc. Heartfelt thanks to the 168 donors who participated and whose generosity made this year’s Annual Fund so successful! The names of our generous donors are listed below.

rEMEMBEring tHE lAcs in your wILL & ESTATE PLANNING
Five Good Reasons for Having a Will…
1. A valid will insures that your final wishes will be carried out.
2. A valid will can remove anxiety and worries for your family at a time of emotional stress.
3. Unless you have a valid will, State law will direct to whom and how your assets will be distributed.
4. With a valid will, your estate can avoid unnecessary taxes and expenses.
5. With a valid will, you can direct a special gift to the Luxembourg American Cultural Society .
You can direct a gift to the LACS as a specific bequest (i.e. certain dollar amount or a certain asset like real estate, stock or bonds, insurance, investments) OR as a percentage bequest (a certain portion of your estate) OR as a residual bequest (that which remains or is left over).
All such bequests help us further the important mission of the lAcs and keep the legacy of our heritage alive and strong!
