Thank you for selecting a SAINT-GOBAIN PERFORMANCE PLASTICS ASTI model AMC1 AstiPure™ pulsation damper, series 2 (or AMS1: slurry applications). I – Presentation The SGPPL ASTI pneumatic pumps of PFD/PFS range use bellows and generate a pulsed flow rate. In an application including a filter, the variations produced by a bellows pump (although significantly less than the ones from a diaphragm pump) can cause damage to the filter membrane and force particles through the filter. To compensate for these variations, SGPPL ASTI has designed a range of pulsation dampers for the PFD/PFS pumps. Part numbers are as follows: • AMC1 (AMS1) for a flow rate up to 2.5 GPM, or 10 liters/min (PFD1/PFS1 or PRD1/PRS1 pumps), • AMC2 (AMS2) for a flow rate up to 5 GPM, or 20 liters/min (PFD2/PFS2 or PRD2/PRS2 pumps), • AMC3 (AMS3) for a flow rate up to 12.5 GPM, or 50 liters/min (PFD3/PFS3 or PRD3/PRS3 pumps), • AMC4 (AMS4) for a flow rate up to 25 GPM, or 100 liters/min (PFD4/PFS4 pump). The damper should be installed on the discharge side of the pump and connected to the same air supply as the pump. The damper absorbs between 65 and 80% of the pulsations regardless of the fluid pressure or flow rate. All wetted parts are made of TEFLON® PFA HP and PTFE. Other parts are made of high-tech plastics such as PVDF, PEEK etc. There are no metal parts. II – Shipment All pulsation dampers are assembled in our clean room, tested with DI water, and double sealed in plastic bags before they are shipped. These steps are taken to ensure the product you receive is of the highest quality and free of contaminates. Upon receipt of the parcel, please inspect your shipment. If there is any visible damage, immediately contact the carrier or your local distributor. An operating instruction manual has been included in each package. Please request another copy if it has not been included. III – Installation The damper should be positioned vertically as shown in the pneumatic diagram (see drawing “APD CAB”), except for slurry applications: position the damper horizontally to avoid that any slurry deposit damages the first spire of the bellow (see drawing “APD S CAB”). Fasten the damper with the Ø M8 tapping located beneath the damper. The same pneumatic supply must be given to the pump and the damper (see III.3.1 on PFD1/PFS1 Operating Instructions): • Use a dry air or nitrogen supply, • Supply pressure between 29 and 72.5 PSI, or 2 and 5 bar (58 PSI, or 4 bar for the best results), • Supplying tube: ID maximum 3/32" (2.5 mm), • Connection ∅ 1/4" gas

The damper must be placed on the delivery side of the pump (See pneumatic diagram). Minimize the tube length between the pump and the damper for optimal performance. The pulsation damper part number is made up as follows: 1 2 straight connectors

2 1 straight connector

1 elbow connector 3 2 elbow connectors

• • • AMC/S1

10

Connection is made with flare fitting for TEFLON® tubing Ø 3/8"x1/2" (10x13mm). The tube needs to be flared prior to fitting, using SGPPL ASTI special forming tool, available as an accessory (P/N MF11013).

The AMC1/AMS1 pulsation damper can be supplied with straight or elbow fittings on the inlet and outlet. The union elbow can be rotated through 360 degrees by loosening the manifold nuts and turning the connector to the required position. Retighten by hand. Caution: if your damper is marked with “W”, you must systematically change the manifold seals (P/N 2587, Mark E) when you loosen the nuts. If your damper is marked “W”, and you wish to change the side of the inlet and/or outlet manifolds, you must absolutely change the PFA seals (washers, P/N 2587, Mark E) located deep in the groove at the same time. Proceed as follows: 1) Remove the washers (with an air spray gun), 2) Fit the new washers in their grooves (a set of exchange seals is supplied with the damper:

P/N WWES KIT S2), 3) Install and tighten the manifolds with a strap wrench (while tightening, you may here a bang). • Part number marked K (AMC1 210K or AMS1 210K) indicates that the pulsation damper is supplied

with KALREZ® manifold (P/N 2464K, Mark E) and body O.rings (P/N 2738K, Mark D). • Part number marked W (AMC1 210W or AMS1 210W) indicates that the pulsation damper is supplied

with PFA flat manifold seals (P/N 2587, Mark E), a PTFE flat body O.ring (P/N 2588, Mark D), and special manifolds (P/N 2578M and 2579M, Marks F and G).

• Part number marked G (AMC1 210G or AMS1 210G) indicates that the pulsation damper will be

supplied with special manifolds with no seals (P/N 2736G or 2737G, Marks F and G) and a PTFE flat body seal (P/N 2588, Mark D).

AMS1 dampers are equipped with rounded spires bellows (P/N 2760S, Mark C) in order to handle abrasive products (slurry).

IV – Applications Before using the pulsation damper with chemicals please check: • The body ring (P/N 2742, Mark A) and the manifold nuts are tight, • The air/nitrogen supply is dry, clean, and between 29 and 72.5 PSI (2 and 5 bar), • The inlet and outlet fluid connections are correctly fitted and tight. Important: To prevent the damper from damage, it must be supplied with air when there is pressure in the fluid circuit. Thanks to its TEFLON® design, the AMC/AMS pulsation damper can be used with most chemicals without the possibility of ionic contamination (even in the case of a bellow's rupture). The use of the damper can significantly reduce the rate of the particle contamination in your system. The normal operating temperatures for the damper are from 32°F (0°C) to +212°F (100°C). When the fluid temperature is greater than 140°F (60°C), pressure should not exceed 43.5 PSI (3 bar), and it is advised to regularly retighten the body ring (P/N 2742, Mark A) as well as the manifold nuts. V – Preventive maintenance Important: for “W” dampers, the PTFE body seal (P/N 2588, Mark D) and PFA manifold seals (P/N 2587, Mark E) must be changed each time you disassemble the damper. For “G” dampers, the PTFE body seal (P/N 2588) must be changed each time you disassemble the damper. Retighten manifold nuts simultaneously and progressively with a strap wrench in order to ensure a correct tightness. Follow the same preventive maintenance schedule for the AMC1/AMS1 as for the pump (See V.2 on PFD1/PFS1 Operating Instructions). When the pulsation damper is used continuously, dismantle the damper annually and replace parts when necessary: • Shaft composite rings P/N 7135F • Central shaft P/N 2734 Important: these parts should always be replaced together. • Bellow P/N 2760 (AMC) or 2760S (AMS) • Bellow O.ring P/N 2724 • Body O.ring P/N 2738 • Manifold O.rings P/N 2464 If the pulsation damper is used intermittently, it is advised to replace all wearing parts every 18 months (shaft composite rings and central shaft) and to check other parts (especially the bellow and other O.rings). VI – Dismantling and repair Attention: part numbers quoted in this manual are those used on a “standard” AMC/AMS pulse damper. Before ordering, please check the spare parts list, the section view of the damper and the part numbers table (see encl. documents).

VI.1 – Replacing the bellow

To replace the bellow: 1) Unscrew the 2 manifold nuts, 2) Put aside the 2 manifold O.rings (P/N 2464, Mark E), except for AMC/S1…W dampers: seals

(P/N 2587, Mark E) must be absolutely changed (AMC/S1…G dampers are equipped with manifolds with no seals),

3) Position the pulsation damper into a bench vice (tighten only over the core P/N 2723), 4) Unscrew the body ring (P/N 2742, Mark A) with a strap wrench, while holding the PFA body, 5) Remove the PFA body (P/N 2748, Mark I), 6) Now you can reach the bellow (P/N 2760 or 2760S, Mark C). Unscrew it from the central shaft

(P/N 2734), 7) Replace with the new bellow (gently hand tighten), 8) To re-assemble, use reverse order of above mentioned steps from 5) to 1). For AMC/S1 …W and G

dampers, you must replace the body ring (P/N 2588, Mark D) before re-assembling. Manifolds nuts must be progressively tightened with a strap wrench.

All TEFLON® PTFE and PFA parts are very soft. Please handle with care to avoid damage. Do not put them on their sealing surfaces. To re-assemble the PFA body, hand tighten the body ring (P/N 2742, Mark A), secure the damper from moving, and then apply another 1/8 of a turn with the strap wrench.

VI.2 – Replacing central shaft and shaft composite rings Follow the previous steps from 1) to 5). Then: 6) Remove central shaft (P/N 2734) and unscrew the stopper (P/N 2800), 7) Remove the 4 composite rings (P/N 7135F), 8) Clean the core (P/N 2723) by removing the dust from previous wear by O.rings, 9) Insert new composite rings with tools from our tool kit (P/N KPFD1) as follows: • Each of the 4 shaft rings (P/N 7135F) is composed of two parts: one O.ring and one sleeve

VI.3 – Replacing the bellow and body O.rings

After removing the bellow (VI.1 Step 6), remove the bellow O.ring (P/N 2724) and the body O.ring (P/N 2738, Mark D). Carefully replace the new ones without scratching the surface of bellow (P/N 2760 or 2760S, Mark C) and body (P/N 2748, Mark I).

VI.4 – Replacing the manifold O.rings Follow steps 1) and 2) from VI.1, and replace the manifold O.rings (P/N 2464, Mark E). Take care, as these parts are fragile, especially end connections surfaces (P/N 2736M and 2737M, Marks F and G). If your damper is marked with “W”, replace the manifold seals (P/N 2587, Mark E) and tighten progressively with a strap wrench. NB: This chapter does not concern AMC/S1…G dampers that have no manifold seals. When dismantling the pulsation damper for service, components found damaged should be replaced. Alternatively, the pulsation damper can be returned to your distributor or SGPPL ASTI for examination, estimate, and repair. Important: Please indicate what chemical was handled, the frequency of use, and the reason for returning the pulsation damper. A receipt note “Conditions of use” is at your disposal. Do not hesitate to ask for it when needed. An estimate for repair will be proposed to you and the pulsation damper will be returned to you within one week from date of its acceptance. VII – Warranty SGPPL ASTI pulsation dampers are warranted for all parts and labor against faulty workmanship (return to factory) for one year from delivery date (9000 hours of use), except for slurry applications (4500 hours of use). SGPPL ASTI is not responsible for damage to its products through improper installation, maintenance, use or attempts to operate them beyond their mechanical capacity, intentionally or otherwise, or for unauthorized repair.
