The Statistic
s
Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of
death among college students
1 in 4 adults live with a diagnosable mental health disorder
Nearly half of all college students feel
so depressed at some point they
have trouble functioning
Anorexia is the third most common chronic illness among
adolescents.
An estimated 10-15% of people with anorexia or bulimia are men.
We can changethe statistics.
Let’s start the conversation.
Join Active Minds to:Increase the campus students’, faculty’s, and staff’s awareness of issues surrounding mental health, symptoms related to mental health disorders, and mental health resources available both on campus and in the surrounding the communityReduce stigma toward people living with mental illness so that students will feel more comfortable seeking help when it is needed and openly discussing mental health related issuesPromote a general awareness of comprehensive “self health” by emphasizing techniques that care for the body as well as the mindProvide students with easy access to information about various Eating Disorders, Depression, Dysthymic Disorder, ADHD, Panic Attack Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and any other mental illness about which they inquire.Serve as a liaison between the student body and the mental health community by hosting guest speakers, providing informational fact sheets, organizing fundraisers, maintaining a comprehensive website, and organizing other events designed to reduce stigma and raise awareness.

Brainstorm Session #1
• What mental health issues need to be addressed on our campus? i. What strikes you as major mental health
problems that aren’t being talked about enough?
ii. Think about what you’ve encountered as a student that promotes mental wellness on your campus and anything that gets in the way.
Brainstorm Session #2
• What kinds of events and activities would you be interested in our chapter holding this year?i. We welcome any and all ideas for our chapter –
big, small, fun, serious, easy, and challenging!
• Let’s generate as many ideas as possible to make it easier to plan initiatives for future semesters. We can’t do everything today, but the future is endless!
Brainstorm Session #3
• What is our vision for the future of mental health and those who have mental illness on our campus? i. What would you like to see our chapter
accomplish over the next year? 3 years? ii. What would we need to get there?
• Think both big & small…
Remember…
Not everyone has a mental illness but
EVERYONE has mental health
