UCIEP CEA - Faculty Standard 150% of IEP instructional hours are delivered by “core” faculty over a 12 month period. Minimum Qualifications: MATESL – or related degree Prior ESL/EFL teaching experience Max 20 contact hours/week 1-year appointment (“Core”) TAs with no prior teaching experience need 1
semester graduate coursework
Program Must: Provide a comprehensive pre-service and training period
Equation: (# Instructional Hours per Year)/2 = Total # Core Hours
Effective balance of TAs and faculty Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor Degree in ESL/EFL – or – Specific Knowledge Base and Skills Set, to include: Language Teaching Methodology Nature of Language/Linguistics Structure of English Second Language Acquisition Intercultural Competence Supervised Practicum Experience Teaching Experience (Adults)

Program Overview: Youngstown
• 50 students• 2, 7-week sessions/semester • No FT Faculty – PT only• 30 hrs/week instruction• Skills-separate curriculum• 1 to 10 levels based on enrollment: Minimum of 5 students
to run a level• Introductory, Beginning, Intermediate, High Intermediate• University Prep: Advanced Section 1, Advanced Section 2
Program Overview: Capital University
• 50 students• Course Length/Structure?• No FT Faculty• Skills-separate curriculum• 4 levels: Elementary, Intermediate, High, Advanced• Admission Requirement: 2 years high school English or
1 year FT English study at the university level within the past 5 years. Level 1 students must be able to speak, understand, write, and read simple English sentences.
Program Overview: ELS Indianapolis (private)
• 20 students at any given time• 4-week sessions year around• 30 hrs wk + 5 hrs lab time• 4 FT teachers/administrators• 4 levels: Beginning, Low Intermediate,

Program Overview: Winowna State University
• 45 ss• 2 FT, 4 PT• 20hrs/week• FA/SP 16 weeks – SU 6 weeks (26.5 contact hours/week in SU)• 4 levels: Low Intermediate, Intermediate, High Intermediate,
Advanced• Bridge: Tied to university admissions• 2 years high school level English or higher required (no
beginners)• Students required to bring laptop or purchase one from the
university upon arrival (alleviates lab infrastructure)
Program Overview: University of S. Missouri
• 45 ss• 1 administrator, 6 FT TS• 25hrs/week• Skills-separate: 5 classes/day M-F• 5 levels: Beginner, Low Intermediate,
Intermediate, High Intermediate, Advanced
Program Overview: UCIEP Member (former program)
• 45 ss• 1 director, 1 academic coordinator, 1 admin. assistant, 2 FT
TS, PT as needed• DSO worked for international department• 3-4 levels: Could combine beginning and intermediate if
needed• 3 courses on a block schedule (2 hours each) – 18 hrs/week• Director did not teach; coordinator taught 2/3 courses; FT =
full loads• Always had a PT for at least 1 class
Program Overview: Texas Christian
• Caps Enrollment: Small IEP = more applicants than spots available
• 1 director, 1 office manager, 4 FT Ts• 16 week semester• Minimum standardized score (20 on iBT) – see
website for all test requirements• $500 deposit, full payment required prior to start,
increasing deposit = decrease student transfers• 3 levels: Intermediate, Advanced, University Prep
