FROM THE EDITORS DESK Linda Baker
Hello everyone. Lots of news in this edition—as it has to cover two months, instead of one, as I will be away for the whole of August. Congratulations to Gail Dawkins who won 1st Prize in the Coal Point Art show, ‘Endangered Species’ section. And to Sue Gilbert whose painting won the Peoples Choice Award. On the subject of art shows—entry forms and other information for our own Annual Exhibition in October, is in this newsletter. On page 6 is the start of lots more information about when, where and what exciting events will be on during the weekend. THE MORISSET ART SHOW. Putting on a show is always a challenge and the organisers would very much like people to give ideas and suggestions to help make the art display 2019, vibrant and better than ever before
And .. A NEW WEBSITE
www.artloversmovement.com Note that the old website www.artloversmovement.net will only be viewable until maybe September and will no longer be updated. All newsletters etc will be on the new website. . On this new website we can add a lot more information, links to other areas of interest and of course your own website, should you decide you would like to know how to build one just like this. That will happen in November if sufficient people are interested.

JULY DEMONSTRATION GWENDOLYN LEWIS
Another wonderful demonstration by our guest artist. How lucky are we to have such talent at our meetings. Below is a summary of tips and tricks that Gwendolyn told us about—lots of things to practice. Water colour or acrylic wash underneath, or even pastels lightly wet and brushed Willow Charcoal is ideal for plan drawing Pastel Paper. You need a good one with teeth Recommend Mi-Teintes TEX or Colour Fix by Art
Spectrum Pthalo Blues used a lot for water colours along with Ultra marine, red based blends will help achieve
distance Ultra Marine in flattish middle part and foreground. Cool lighter colour for background then some dark
colours through it, butdon't use light tones too soon Try using orange or terracotta colours in whites to
make a dramatic effect With white, less is more for impact White is not all white, look for shadows etc in the
white Use a fixative spray to add tooth and stop the
colour dragging up when adding white Quality white essential. Artist quality in titanium
white Use a square edge pastel for sharp lines Great artist to inspire, Ray Balkwill—English artist

SUMMARY OF COMMITTEE MEETING July 2018 October ALM Annual Exhibition – As ALM only has insurance for public liability, artists wishing to insure their artworks against
damage, theft etc must take out those policies themselves. We are now in the PCYC which is more difficult to find than the Memorial Hall in Dora street. The PCYC Hall will be available from 10am on the day of setup. The Exhibition Committee will begin meetings prior to the next ALM meeting at 12noon, 2nd
July, Dora Creek Workers Club. Members TBA. Placement of paintings at the exhibition will be done by those appointed who have experience in
this realm. ALM members who can participate – we need extra help! Library Exhibitions (Toronto and Belmont): a letter was sent to Julie Dunn at LMCC (Lake Macquarie City Council) requesting paintings sold during the exhibition be taken at the time of purchase and replaced with another painting. Julie’s response was to end the exhibition earlier, before Christmas, but the paintings should remain as originally hung until then. After much deliberation the Committee decided to stay with the original offer and see how it works out, to take advantage of the holiday period following Christmas. Future exhibitions in libraries will be based on the sales outcome of this arrangement. The exhibitions will be split between the two libraries and balanced according to painting subject for each library. Secretary: Heather Ulanas
