AS WE GATHER

“Trinity Sunday is set aside for us to assent to the witness

of Scripture about the nature of God. We mere creatures cannot say that we understand the divine nature, but we can at least use the human words to which God limited Himself as He revealed what we need to know. All three persons of the Trinity work as one, although we recognize the Father as Creator, the Son as Savior, and the Holy Spirit as Sanctifier. We join the rest of creation in praising His great name, as we speak of our being made, saved from our sins, and given faith to trust our incredible God.

Blessèd be the Holy Trinity and the undivided Unity. Let us give glory to him because he has shown his mercy to us.

I have set the LORD always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure. For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption. You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Almighty and everlasting God, You have given us grace to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity by the confession of a true faith and to worship the Unity in the power of the Divine Majesty. Keep us steadfast in this faith and defend us from all adversities; for You, O Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, live and reign, one God, now and forever.

From the Service of the Sacrament: “Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of Sabaoth adored.” Three times the angels cry out: “Holy, Holy, Holy!” which is an indication of the threeness in one God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This is the Name in which we are baptized. We have been made a part of God’s family. And so we are called to live lives that are in harmony with our new family. We are to be godly and to live in God’s image. As God is loving, kind, and generous – so are we called to be.

The Triune God Reveals Himself in Christ Jesus

The divine Word of the Father also is the holy wisdom who “was beside him, like a master workman,” who “was daily his delight, rejoicing before him always” (Prov. 8:30). This Word became flesh and suffered death in order to bestow life by the preaching of His Gospel “to the children of man” (Prov. 8:4). He honors the Father, and the Father glorifies Him by raising Him from the dead, so that all who keep His Word “will never see death” (John 8:51). Long ago, “father Abraham rejoiced” in the day of Christ, for “he saw it and was glad” (John 8:56). Though Christ was “crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men,” “God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death” (Acts 2:23, 24). As He “received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:33), so it is by and through the Son that God the Father pours out the Holy Spirit upon His Church.
