Dearest Srila Guru Maharaj,

Please let us pay our most humble and respectful obeisances at Your Divine LotusFeet.

Srila Guru Maharaj, first please forgive our offenses. Without the mercy from YourDivine Grace we are nowhere. We are trying to serve Your Divine Grace but ourfalse ego is keeping us at a distance. We know that we are not fit to glorify YourDivine Grace, but with Your Divine Grace’s causeless mercy only, we are still sus-taining ourselves. The Acharya is the representative of The Supreme Lord Himself;by following and understanding only a small part of Their Lila, we will be firm inKrishna consciousness and our path back Home will be clear.

Srila Guru Maharaj, please give a drop of mercy to these most fallen and rascalsouls so we can progress on this spiritual path without any offense. Our only prayer,on this Holy Appearance Day of our most beloved Srila Guru Maharaj, is to alwaysremember the Lotus Feet of Your Divine Grace and render service to Them becauseThey are like jyoti, enlightening our path back Home.

The conditioned souls are like a boat without a rudder; you are showing us oursupreme direction. You are our lord and master. We take advantage of this December 10th, when all the stars of the universeshine for joy on the birthday of Your appearance in this world, to render You

We offer our reverence and dandavatpranams to Your Lotus Feet, depositing our hearts full of loving affection and dedi-cation for the Guru who is the most expert in all Vedic conceptions: Srila GovindaMaharaj. We wanted to also tell You that we would like to be there together inNabadwip with all the other vaisnavas, singing and dancing the Glories of ourDivine Masters.

We know you are very dear to Sri Krishna Chaitanya, because You fulfill YourDivine Master’s dearest desire perfectly. Dear Srila Gurudev,

Today, Saturday, at Sri Govinda Dham, it was raining. Mahaprabhu was lookingvery soft, dressed beautifully by Lilamoy devi dasi. Jita Prabhu, the eldest son of myfriend Sumati devi dasi, was firmly ringing the arati bell. In the garden so manyplants stood tall, flowering beautifully; gardenias, roses, golden coreopsis, asters,white daisies, bouganvillea, Arabian jasmine, frangipanis, orange marigolds, morethan I have seen for a long time. Kunti didi and her mother Sumanasi are so happythere are plenty of flowers for Mahaprabhu and for your Vyasa Puja. There are alsobeds full with vegetables and herbs.

It is no coincidence that all the inhabitants of Sri Govinda Dham are desiring tohonor and serve you on the day of your Vyasa Puja. You brought Mahaprabhu to SriGovinda Dham for us. You have given us so much blessing, so much HeartNourishment. You are mercifully softening our hearts so that we may learn to surren-der and serve. Please accept my inadequate attempt to honor you, our Guru, WorldGuru of the Language of the Heart. There are not words to express my thanks foryour mercy. I pray that my feelings will manifest practically in your service.

I don’t know if it is possible to give away one’s life-span; but if it is, I would like tomake an offering of mine to you. According to my astrological chart I have a life-span of about 110 years. I feel these years are wasted on me. I turned 45 this year soI have about 65 years left, according to my astrological chart. If such a thing is possi-ble, I would like to make an offering of those 65 years (I have left) to you; pleasebless me with remembrance of you, Radha-Krishna, Gaura-Nitai and their holyabodes at the time of my death.

In attempting to write this offering to you for the most special day of your advent, Ifeel like I have no ability to describe your most cherish-able qualities and glorifyyour divine transcendental play. But also I feel that for Srila Gurudev’s and GuruMaharaj’s satisfaction, I must try.

So I sit here wondering what to write and I remember how loving you and yourassociates are towards me. Recently, I have been feeling my life in KrishnaConsciousness is starting; I am feeling overwhelmingly indebted towards your andthe devotees, and it is life giving. I remember Sripad Tridandi Maharaj performingmy ritvik ceremony on your behalf, bestowing the most precious gift: your lovingguidance in chanting the holy names of their lordships. And then you are teachingus all what is jiva doya, the duty of the soul. By your unprecedented example youare leading the way, upholding the highest standards of nami ruchi, vaisnava sevaand atma prasad.

I heard on a tape Srila Guru Maharaj saying, “Krishna Consciousness is mostaccommodating.” You are expanding the mission, accommodating us all, Gurudev,regardless of caste and creed, so lovingly engaging us in the processes of devotionalservice in the association of the devotees.

And I sit here not knowing what to write. Please forgive my offenses towards youand your divine associates, and please chastise me for my lack of sincerity.

Our Most Honorable and Worship-able Srila Gurudev,

The world is now surcharged with the mercy of Mahaprabhu, and thus we findourselves miraculously at your lotus feet. Your personal example is the reality

we are barely opening our eyes to. Your never-ending tolerance of unforgivableoffense after offense, and ever-remembrance of the tiniest service rendered, are allfeatures of your inconceivable, glorious mercy.

Without your mercy there would not be the smallest possibility of hearing the all-purifying, gracious sounds of the most beautiful, spotless vaisnava philosophy. Notto speak of that, in my case there would be no question even of the hope of rankingamong the human species.

The qualities of deep honesty, integrity, tolerance, humility and gentleness, compas-sion and giving honor to others have no existence outside of your service. They mayappear to exist in this world, but they are only shadows, and even then are quicklymisspent and finally lost.

I am not one of those fortunate souls with purified hearts and sincere attachment toyour lotus feet. But I pray that I will gain forever the company and loving service ofthose great souls who always try to serve you. It’s foolish to make such an impossi-ble prayer. There are many other places to go in this world, and I have been to mostof them. But by the grace of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Guru Maharaj and YourMost Divine Grace, we are standing on the edge of the impossible, and what can wedo but hopelessly beg for what can never reasonably happen? My prayer is that thatI will embrace that begging mood and always live in it.

Because you have seen me and felt compassion for my truly hopeless, pitiful condi-tion, I have confidence that although I may sink in the quicksand of my past sinsand terrible qualities, you will keep the light on for me.

Your loving and instructing talks gently peel away layers of misconceptions anddoubts. The way you glide through this world with your cane makes me feel soproud and grateful to even be in your presence. Everything you do is for Your SrilaGuru Maharaj, so you inspire and nourish all suffering souls in this world. You aretruly the personification of mercy in this age of quarrel and hypocrisy.
