Born Nezbah Gould, her mother was of the Hashtłʼishnii clan, and her father was of the Naashashí Dineʼé. Wikipedia 5th Grade will learn the significance of Native American artist Clara Sherman. So many things we have learned from the these artist that we carry with us today. Clara Sherman is a wonderful Navajo weaver and she comes from a generation of weavers. Her and her sisters learned to weave at a very young age. Sherman was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award and New Mexico Governor's Awards for Excellence in the Arts. It’s important for students to learn about craftsman like Sherman because crafts are passed down from generation to generation. Weaving surrounds our everyday lives from blankets to rugs to clothes to tapestries. Student will learn how to weave a bookmark using a handmade loom. 3rd Grade-Self Portraits Student will be studying the portraits of Alice Neel. Neel was known for her oddly looking portraits of people that captured the essence of that person. She paints in such a way that you could see the story of that person life. Student will read about Neel and then they are going to create their own self portrait by looking at every detail of their own face. I will reinforce students with the same information they are learning in the classroom. Student will also learn about different animals that come from NC. Due to the lack of time students will not draw all of them just a selected few, however, we will discuss them .
