Bananas, BananasBananas grow in tropical countries on plantations. Bananas arethe third most popular fruit after grapes and oranges. Theyneed to grow in a temperature of 26-30C with 160-180mm rainfall per month. Because bananas grow in a hot, wet climate,lots of weeds grow fast and bananas are also attacked by fungiand insects and chemical fertilisers and pesticides are used. Thesepesticides are mostly sprayed over the plantation by aeroplanes orhelicopters. The banana plant grows up to 6m high and has 10-20leaves - each leaf is up to 3.5m long and 0.5m wide.

Australia has about a sixth of the worlds sheep! One thirdof the worlds wool comes from Australia. There are over150 million in Australia - far more sheep than people!About 80% of the sheep are kept for their and the other sheep are bred for their meat. Sheep can be found inthe Outback - the dry central part of Australia.

Once a year sheep shearers come to each station to shearthe sheep (cut the sheeps wool). These people are reallyexpert at their job. They use shearers (big scissors)and can shear a sheep in a matter of minutes.
