WelcomeAddressOnbehalfoftheMetropolitanDetroitMusician'sLeague,IwouldliketowelcomeyoutotheAnnualConferenceinDearborn.Wearehappytobehostingallofyouinthishistoricarea,whereHenryFordlivedandcontributedtoourmodernlifestylewithhisinventionoftheassemblyline.Ford'sinnovationmadeautomobilesaffordabletomostAmericanhouseholds.InourownMDMLchapter,oneofourmembers,BettyStasson,sawaworthycauseandovertime,alsopersistedinmakingithappen.Thatworthycausewasthelegalizingofmusiclessonstaughtinhomes.Consequently,MichiganistheonlystateintheUSwithsuchteacher-friendlylaws.Asawelcomegift,eachattendeewillreceiveacopyofCatherineRollins'recentlycommissionedcompositionentitledSpanishFire.ThisworkwascommissionedbytheMDMLchapterincelebrationofour88thyear.Ihopethisweekwillinspireandbetter-equipyouasateacher.Manyofuswillgettoseeoldfriendsthatwehaven'tseeninawhile,andwillevenmakenewfriendshipsaswell.Enjoytheconferenceandthankyouforbeinghere.Sincerely,KarenFeillaMDMLPresident

SincehisaffiliationwithAlfredPublishingCompanyin1986asacomposerandclinician,DennisAlexanderhasearnedaninternationalreputationasoneofNorthAmerica'smostprolificandpopularcomposersofeducationalpianomusicforstudentsatalllevels.ProfessorAlexanderretiredfromhispositionattheUniversityofMontanainMay1996wherehetaughtpianoandpianopedagogyfor24years.UponmovingtoCalifornia,hetaughtprivatelyinadditiontoservingonthefacultiesof

thescholarshipprogram.Alwaysreadytohelpmoveapiano,shehadher foot crushed when a piano fell on it during student testing in 2001. Doris began teaching while in high school in Romeo under the direction of Grace Gookin, her piano teacher. Receiving state certification in 1990, Doris is acaringpianoteacherforherstudentsandforalloftheSATstudents.Doriswashonoredasteacheroftheyearin1977.

withMarySiciliano.Shehashadnumerousnotableperformancesandwonmanyprizes,includingmakingherorchestraldebutatage10withtheDetroitCivicOrchestra.Inthefollowingyear,shewontheDearbornSymphonyOrchestraYoungArtistCompetition,whichledtoaperformanceofMozartPianoConcertoindminor,K.466withtheorchestra.ShehasalsowontheRochesterSymphonyOrchestraYoungArtistCompetitionthisyeartoplayRachmaninoffPianoConcertoNo.1.HeatherhasbeennamedasthewinneroftheEastCentralDivisionJuniorPianoPerformanceCompetitionbyMTNAbecomingoneofthesevennationalfinalists.Shehasalsowonotherfirstplaceawards,includingtheMichiganStatewinneroftheMTNAJuniorPianoPerformanceCompetitionsthreeyearsinarow,thewinnersoftheJuniorDivisionoftheMMTAStateFinals,theMichiganSteinwayJuniorArtistsCompetition,theElementaryDivisionoftheMMTAConcertoCompetitionandtheSchoolcraftHonorsRecitals,aswellasmanyothercontestsandfestivals.Inaddition,HeatherhaswontheDoreenWesselTaylorPianoAwardwithscholarshipfromtheTuesdayMusicaleofDetroit.ShethenwonthreeconsecutivefirstprizesintheirStudentLeagueCompetitions.
