WelcomeAddressOnbehalfoftheMetropolitanDetroitMusician'sLeague,IwouldliketowelcomeyoutotheAnnualConferenceinDearborn.Wearehappytobehostingallofyouinthishistoricarea,whereHenryFordlivedandcontributedtoourmodernlifestylewithhisinventionoftheassemblyline.Ford'sinnovationmadeautomobilesaffordabletomostAmericanhouseholds.InourownMDMLchapter,oneofourmembers,BettyStasson,sawaworthycauseandovertime,alsopersistedinmakingithappen.Thatworthycausewasthelegalizingofmusiclessonstaughtinhomes.Consequently,MichiganistheonlystateintheUSwithsuchteacher-friendlylaws.Asawelcomegift,eachattendeewillreceiveacopyofCatherineRollins'recentlycommissionedcompositionentitledSpanishFire.ThisworkwascommissionedbytheMDMLchapterincelebrationofour88thyear.Ihopethisweekwillinspireandbetter-equipyouasateacher.Manyofuswillgettoseeoldfriendsthatwehaven'tseeninawhile,andwillevenmakenewfriendshipsaswell.Enjoytheconferenceandthankyouforbeinghere.Sincerely,KarenFeillaMDMLPresident

SincehisaffiliationwithAlfredPublishingCompanyin1986asacomposerandclinician,DennisAlexanderhasearnedaninternationalreputationasoneofNorthAmerica'smostprolificandpopularcomposersofeducationalpianomusicforstudentsatalllevels.ProfessorAlexanderretiredfromhispositionattheUniversityofMontanainMay1996wherehetaughtpianoandpianopedagogyfor24years.UponmovingtoCalifornia,hetaughtprivatelyinadditiontoservingonthefacultiesof

Doris has been a member of LAPTF since its inception serving as President from 1999 – 2001, Treasurer from 2007 to the present, organizing the Yearbook and serving on the Monster Concert committee. thescholarshipprogram.Alwaysreadytohelpmoveapiano,shehadher foot crushed when a piano fell on it during student testing in 2001. Doris began teaching while in high school in Romeo under the direction of Grace Gookin, her piano teacher. Receiving state certification in 1990, Doris is acaringpianoteacherforherstudentsandforalloftheSATstudents.Doriswashonoredasteacheroftheyearin1977.

Besidespiano,sheplayedoboeinherhighschoolconcertbandandthebassdruminthemarchingband.AsamemberofaJugBand,5DropsandaDrip,sheprovidedsomeexcitingentertainment.HereducationincludestwoyearsofstudiesinmedicaltechnologyatMSU.
