Joint Governance Meeting

Administrative Integration

Why Integrate?

Board of Regents Resolution (2/05)

Both UW Colleges and UW-Extension

- Are statewide educational networks- Are gateways to educational access- Have central administrations in Madison- Partner with county governments- Reach new audiences in new ways to increase university degree holders- Have potential for reducing administrative costs

Administrative Integration

Why Integrate?

Ward Report Advantages

Integration could:

- Expand Access- Give the UW greater presence statewide- Create more bachelor’s degrees in Wisconsin- Strengthen county government relationships

Administrative Integration

Why Integrate?

Ward Report Disadvantages

Integration:

- Could create brand/identity confusion- Will take a huge toll in time/energy- Could hurt local/county relationships- Could be difficult to reconcile governance

and cultures of the two institutions

Integration

What will not be integrated?

- Faculty- Academic Programs/Curriculum

because- BOR did not stipulate- Colleges and Extension have different

academic missions and academic cultures

Future

Short-term:

- Remain two institutions- Led by one central administration

Long-term:- A merger would require BOR action- No immediate plans to go in this direction
