Accomplishment Report of the School-Based Disaster Development Plan

SY 2014-2015

To some people a disaster would mean the end of the world; they lose everything, their name, money, and means of livelihood but to some people a disaster would make no difference. That is very much possible these days, thanks to disaster planning. This kind of planning is very familiar to contingency planning where businesses set aside a sum of money monthly or annually to pay for any kind of product guarantee or failure or just to secure them from any unexpected harmful situation. It is thought that only multinational companies enjoying economies of scale should engage in disaster planning, this is a very flawed concept for everyone needs protection and security.

Disaster recovery planning involves having policies, process and procedures that are related to being ready to recover and ensure business continuity in regards to technological infrastructure that an organization runs on, in the unfortunate event of a disaster whethermanmade or natural. This is a key component involving all aspects of a business, mainly the technology aspects that support a business and all the material data.

Natural disasters include floods, earthquakes, tornadoes or hurricanes. Man-made disasters on the other hand are those that involve human interventions like hazardous material spills, infrastructural or power failure, virus attacks or acts of terrorism. It is therefore inevitable to plan andbe prepared in the case of a disaster even though it is hard to avoid or foresee these unfortunate events.

Earthquake Drill

By planning and practicing what to do if an earthquake strikes, you can learn to react correctly and automatically when the shaking begins. During an earthquake, most deaths and injuries are caused by collapsing building materials and heavy falling objects, such as bookcases, cabinets, and heating units. Learning the safe spots in your classroom or home is very important. Practicing going to these safe spots would be of great help. Participating in an earthquake drill will help children understand what to do in case you are not with them during an earthquake.

Drills ensure the safety of everyone and help lessen injuries to human and damages on infrastructure as a whole.

Fire Drill

Fire drills ensure the safety of all students and staff members. It is important to follow the fire drill procedure as careful and efficient as possible. In order to avoid commotion and confusion in the event of a real fire, fire drills should be executed on a fixed basis. Doing this keeps everyone ready and prepared for evacuation should a fire occur in the building. Correct evacuation of all students and faculty also makes the job easier for fire fighters to do their job.
