Accomplishment Repoft

The recently concluded Forum was able to achieve the objectives set forth bythe Convenors. It was able to stage a venue for exchanging experiences on developingand improving the capacity of teacher education in science and mathematics throughsharing of best practices among APEC economies. The said Forum also laid the groundworks for building a research network in the teaching and learning of science andmathematics among the APEC economies. Lastly, and more importantly, it was able tosolicit the commitment of the pafticipants in collaborative activities through research,linkages and exchanges, and policy development.

The Forum was attended by a total of 50 participants and guests. Of thesenumber, 9 were delegates of selected APEC economies namely, Australia, Korea, HongKong, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and the United States; 8 were localexpefts who were tasked to deliver talks on ceftain topics and 12 others were eitherDean or Faculty Member of higher education institutions that conduct research inscience and mathematics education who acted as Observers. The rest were guests andDOST personnel.

A total of seventeen (17) technical papers anchored on the topics listed belowwere presented:

1. Ethnoscience and Ethnomathematics2. Cross-cultural Comparison of Students3. ICT in Teacher Education4. Professional development for teachers, educators & leaders in Science and

Mathematics Education5. Developing institutional capabilities on research in Science and Mathematics for

Workshops on the following topics were likewise held:

The said workshops allowed key players and stakeholders in education, amongAPEC economies, to contribute their views and insights on the above topics. This activityled to the formulation of a Declaration that was signed by twelve (12) participants.
