Grading Policy

The Hofstee Method will be used for determining a passing score for the final cumulative grades.

Judges are requested to set up the following values:

Minimum and Maximum failure rate

Minimum and Maximum passing point

Failure rate:

The percent of failing examinees is a measure of the performance of the whole class and is mainly dependent on the following variables:

The average preparedness of the students of that class

The difficulty of the test

Passing point:

The score required for an individual student to pass is a measure of the performance of that student and is dependant on:

The preparedness of that student

The difficulty of the test

The range of block failure rates is defined by the percentage of students who do not achieve the minimum passing score for the final cumulative grades.

The Minimum passing score is set at 55%

The Maximum passing score is set at 65%

Students passing or failing a block/s in a semester will get letter grades of:

A (80 - 100)

B (70 - 79)

C (MPS – 69)

F (Below MPS)

The results of the mini examinations will be sent to you on you Ross email account

The score you achieve will be accompanied by the class average and the standard deviation for that particular exam

To judge whether you are in good academic standing for that exam your score should be on the mean or above. If you are below 65 % you should seek advise from academic success

All the disciplines will be tracked for each individual student

Students achieving low grades in any disciplines will get a warning from the promotions committee

Students also should be aware that some clinical rotations may ask the university to provide them with discipline grades before a student can be accepted by those rotations

Note:

You are required to achieve a cGPA of 2:00 and above in order to advance to semester five. Failure to do so will result in dismissal.

science program in five semesters will be

subject to dismissal

Page 17: Academic Grading

Any student dismissed from the School of Medicine may appeal this decision to the office of the Dean.

Appeals must be made in writing within fourteen days of the dismissal date on the email notification.

Dismissed students are not eligible for reinstatement the semester subsequent to dismissal. Those students who are appealing this decision will be considered for reinstatement for the semester subsequent to the semester in which the decision regarding the appeal was made.

The Dean of the School of Medicine will make a final decision on such appeals within two months of receipt of the written appeal.

On completion of all Four Semesters: Students must take the NBME comprehensive shelf examinations. Students who score less than 66% on this examination have two more opportunities to sit for and pass this examination.

All students who pass the NBME comprehensive examination with 66% and above will be allowed to take USMLE step I

Students with a score of 65% and below will not be certified to take USMLE step I

Failure to pass the NBME comprehensive examination after three attempts will result in dismissal

Electronic testing:

• This is conducted in the Stowe Exam Center

• Students are tested in groups of approximately 220 at a time

• Important notice: Please do not bring any electronic devices or cellular telephones to the exam center. The penalty is a zero on the exam and possibly dismissal
