One of the learning methods that can be chosen is to enhance students involvement actively in the process of learning mathematics is Problem Proposal. The method of giving assignment about problem proposal is the method of giving assignment to the students to propose a problem or question based on the situation given and then students also provide the solution of the problem or question which has been proposed. Because students are given chances to express their ideas about problem they faced, so beside they can actively involved in learning process, it can also bring the learning condition to be more fun. This experiment uses descriptive qualitative method. As the data source is students of VIII-H of SMP Negeri 13 Surabaya. The activities of student are taken from the observation during the learning process is in progress. For students responses after following the learning process are taken from students’ responses questionnaire. And the finishing of students’ study result is taken from the test result which is done after all material is given.

Keyword: The Method of Giving Assignment about Problem Proposal

Mathematics learning in the class can’t only be about giving material and then students accepting but teachers must also try to involve students active in the process of learning.

Based on the experiment done and also the available data so it can be concluded that: (1) The finishing of students study at VII-H of SMP Negeri 13 Surabaya on the material of statistics after the implementation of learning using the method of giving assignment about problem proposal reaches 84,21% in finishing at the classical learning. In the other word, the classical finishing is achieved. (2) Students activities of VIII-H of SMP Negeri 13 Surabaya on the teaching and learning activity with the score of 3, 03 in average is classified in the criteria of students active.(3) Students responses to the problem based learning at the mathematics learning at the class of VII-H SMP Negeri 13 Surabaya has a very positive responses or very good with the average percentage of 99, 98%.
