2013 VCCS New Horizons Conference Ensuring Student Success in a Visual Arts Program Session Abstract: The Visual Arts Center of Tidewater Community College engages students from start to finish, employing intrusive orientation by introducing expectations early on for successful mastery of core course content, promoting student engagement in Visual Arts events, reinforcing the use of a universal critique form and supporting visual literacy. Dynamic communication modes used will be discussed including the TCC VAC Blackboard site, the TCC VAC website, and strategically located electronic boards. This presentation walks through the “steps to success” as faculty present to you the “assessment story”, useful orientation components, opportunities for student engagement and returning full circle. 1.
