Abby Latif Community Midwife Oldham Care Organisation
We recognise that our staff members are more than just our colleagues Whilst you doamazing things at work you also do amazing things within your personal liveshellip and wewant to hear about it
One of our Community Midwives at Oldham Care Organisation has been sharing hercreative talents with the mums (and dads)-to-be creating some stunning artwork thatrsquosnow adorning the walls in the unit
As well as helping mothers during labour and birth and parents during the most precioustimes of their lives Abby Latif has used her artistic skills to create some beautiful wall artand displays which depict motherhood and birth displayed on large boards in the entranceto the birth centre Shersquos also created original pieces which have been displayed inside thebirth centre labour ward entrance scan corridor and Level One where huge rainbowwings were painted for our staff during the height of the pandemic
Abby explained ldquoOur maternity unit is a place where we want mums to feel supportedcalm and relaxed We adjust the lighting noise and visual effects like diffusers andprojectors to add to their birthing experience as we know it promotes hormones that areproduced during labour and birth In addition to this I was asked to improve the outside ofthe rooms and brighten up the corridors and maternal art work is something I got involvedwith when I was a student midwife so I really enjoyed creating art work within this subjectand being able to see how parents enjoy it
ldquoIt was also a real pleasure to give something back to our amazing staff during thepandemic something that could lift their spirits when we all felt the strain of Covid Therainbow wings is dedicated not only to 2020 the International Year of the Nurse andMidwife but to all our Royal Oldham staff and it was amazing to see everyone enjoy themand taking pictures Itrsquos been a pleasure to create these designs and there is more tocome Special mention to Roy and his estates decorating team that paint my backgroundwalls thank yourdquo
