Presidents Report to the Board of Directors and the Annual General meeting.

This has been a busy year for the Archers Association of Nova Scotia. Our Canada Games coach

Lindsey Poehl and Travis McLeod attended a 2 day Canadian Sport for Life National Summit in

Ottawa/Gatineau in February. Mike Myra and Robert Laprade represented AANS at Archery

Canada directors meetings in August in Woodstock, New Brunswick. A total of 5 archers also

received partial funding to participate in the 2013 Canadian Outdoor Archery Championships.

This funding came from Sport Nova Scotia and from Archery Canada. AANS members won a

total of 10 medals at the 2013 Canadian OutdoorArchery Championships.

I need to thank our Provincial Coach, Rick Comeau and our Canada Games Coach, Lindsey

Poehl for all their hard work and contributions to our coaching program. Our Learning

Facilitators have put on several coaching courses around the province and are planning more

courses for the coming year.

This year AANS and all provincial sport organization are completing our assessments for our

Block Funding for the Department of Health and Wellness. Our Block funding has been

constant at $10,000 for the past 4 or 5 year. The assessment determines whether our Block

Funding increases or decreases for the next 4 years. Your club reports help us know the

activities of our clubs and help us fill in the details in our assessment forms. Our assessment is

due on Nov. 25 and we will discover the outcome (whether our block funding increases or

decreases) by Dec. 18.

We have just been informed by Sport Nova Scotia that we will be receiving $4200 to go toward

the purchase of another set of NASP archery gear. AANS will contribute up to $900 for this

purchase.

As Rodney Misener leaves the Executive of AANS, I need to thank him for his contributions to

promoting 3D archery in Nova Scotia. I also thank the other members of the executive (John

Webber, Marilyn McLaren, Nicole Theriault, Tom Riley and Rob LaPrade) for their support,

advise and occasional frown. Finally, I thank all the volunteers, coaches, judges, and archers of

all the clubs and associations for the countless hours of time spent promoting and participating in

archery in Nova Scotia.

Thank you,

William Currie

President

President’s update to membership.

Firstly, I must thank Nicole Theriault for assembling this newsletter. I admit that I “polished” it a bit.

This is her last duty as Secretary and now she is our Treasurer. In addition, I am delighted to welcome

Chad Harpell (Vice President 3D) and Melanie Lafler (Secretary) to the executive.

As many of you know, our Canada Games coach resigned his position as of 2013/12/31. We advertised

for a Canada Games coach and I can announce now that Jason March applied for the position and has

been selected to be our new Canada Games coach. Jason has strong archery credentials, having

participated in Canada Summer Games (Archery) in Kamloops (1993), in Brandon (1997) and in various

other National and International archery events. He has NCCP coaching credentials, level 2 theory, level

3 technical (archery), and level 3 practical and is committed to achieving the equivalent of level 3 theory

in 2014. An advertisement is now being circulated and is on our website AANS.ca for the position of

Canada Games manager. The archer selection process “2015 CANADA WINTER GAMES - Indoor

Archery Event - Athlete selection process” document on our website and in this newsletter has recently

been edited to reflect these changes with Canada Winter Games coaching. Archer monthly reports are

now to be sent to our Vice President Target (Tom Riley [email protected]) and our Canada Games

coach Jason March ([email protected]).

Our Block Funding from the Department of Health and Wellness was announced on January 2. Our

Block funding has remained at $10,000 per year for the next 4 years. I was disappointed that this funding

did not increase from previous years, but at least it did not decrease.

At our BOD meeting in November we agreed to fund certified coaches for coaching activities related to

Canada Games core team archers and also for participation development. We will pay mileage at our

standard rate of $0.30 / kilometer. There are 2 separate pots of money. So that we can budget and so

coaches will not be disappointed, please submit a budget request to our Treasurer before your planned

activities.

Participation development is an activity where people of all ages are introduced to archery. We have

recently acquired another complete set of NASP Genesis bows, arrows, targets, and nets. Some of this

gear is already in use in two separate participation development projects. This gear is available to our

coaches for participation development projects.

Thank you,

William Currie

President

VP Archery Canada, membership report.

Archery Canada has new by-laws that comply with the new federally imposed Not-For-Profit

legislation. Changes include firstly, PSO representatives are now members and allotted one vote

per province or territory, secondly, archers are now registrants with Archery Canada (non

voting), and the members (PSO representatives) will now elect the Board of Directors.

Provinces may adopt similar legislation.

The 2014 Nationals will be in Lac La Biche, Alberta from August 1 to 10. Due to pipeline

construction in that area, early hotel booking is recommended. More information can be found

on the 2014 Canadian National Archery Championships web site. The 2015 Nationals were to

be held in Ontario but due to Ontario hosting the Pan AM Games, AC approved a location

change with Manitoba. 3D Nationals will be held in Carberry, Manitoba, Field at the Sanford

Range, which is operated by the Archers & Bowhunters Association of Manitoba (ABAM) and

Target being held next to the Winnipeg International Airport.

AANS has 22 member clubs and Associations, 450 members of which 173 are returning

members and 277 are new members. AANS currently has 95 families and 157 single

memberships.

Respectfully submitted,

Robert Laprade

2013 Nova Scotia 3D Report

Nova Scotia 3D Archery for 2013 had a very busy year, with thirty four different shoots held across the

province. With twenty two clubs and three associations, Nova Scotia archers have no shortage of

tournaments or clubs to participate in. Membership numbers are very strong with AANS and most clubs

seem to be doing well with memberships and participants at their shoots.

This year a few clubs shoots have seen numbers climb above the one hundred mark, making these

shoots rewarding, fun and profitable. I would like to think one of the reasons for the stronger numbers

is due to the 3D Target draw offered by AANS and supported by most Nova Scotia Archery Retailers. The

target draw this year concentrated on improving numbers by encouraging 3D archers to bring a fellow

archer to their first time shoot. The targets were drawn for at the 3D provincials in Lunenburg.

The Lunenburg Rod and Gun club went above and beyond this year, by hosting the 2013 3D Outdoor

Provincials on the beautiful South Shore, and with such a well-organized event, things went off without

a hitch. With sixty- six plus archers participating, I had the opportunity to talk some of the participants

that weekend, and most felt very pleased with the setup of the course and organization of the event.

One item that may not have been noticed by the participants that weekend was the meeting held with

different archery members from across the province, to discuss the development of a 3D Committee.

3D archery is too big and growing too fast for one member (3D Vice President) to look after the changes

needed to accept the growth of this sport. I encourage the new 3D Vice President to continue on with

the setup of the 3D Committee for the province and help this sport grow with a positive and fun

outlook. I am certain the 3D association would agree that it is time for 3D archery to come under one

umbrella and make this province one of the strongest in Canada.

This year with the Nationals being held in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia showed strong representation,

with some archers finishing with a medal, proving that membership in a club and the spirit of

competition is a positive thing. I was not able to attend this year’s Nationals or the Archery Canada 3D

meeting, so Mike Myra of Lunenburg graciously represented Nova Scotia at the National meeting.

Over the past three years I have had the opportunity as 3D Vice President to meet some great people

who have some great ideas on how 3D archery should be changed to make improvements and I

encourage those archers to step forward and make those ideas become reality.

Yours truly,

Rodney Misener,

AANS 3D Vice President

2013 AANS Vice President of Target Report

The majority of target tournaments in 2013 were well attended, especially the indoor

tournaments. This was mainly due to the Canada Games being in 2015. A welcome addition to

the target ranks was the development of the para archers down at Northumberland Strait Shooters

Archery Club. (Job well done Allan). Facilities were challenging at times for these athletes.

Other positive developments were the tournaments held at St Marys Archery Club and at The

Millbrook First Nation.

The Province was quite well represented at Outdoor Nationals this year. We had 11 Archers

there and brought home 6 Medals, 2 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze. A very bright spot there was the

Program Run by Bruce Graves out of Osprey Archery Club and CFB Halifax Archery Club. In

the Canadian Regionals we won 2 Medals, a gold and a silver.

I would like to thank those that helped the VP of Target out big or little, Gayle Caudle, Marilyn

McLaren, The Thomas Family, John Webber, Bill Currie, Rob Laprade, Ken Saulnier, all the

judges, Hunt Outdoors, Millbrook First Nation.

The challenges facing target in the province are many unfortunately. If AANS is serious about

the development of Target Archery in Nova Scotia (especially outdoor), I believe there has to be

a larger effort put forward by the organization. It is too much to think that one person is going to

take over this job and be able to bring new direction to the sport.

Coaching Clinic Report 2013

There are only a few archery clubs in Nova Scotia who do not have an NCCP Trained

Instructor of Beginner Archers coach.

We held one Instructor of Beginner Archers clinic this year.

It was held in Windsor with nine coaches taking the course and attaining the Trained Coach

status.

We have a course in the planning stages scheduled for spring of 2014. The location and date

will be announced as soon as we have enough participants.

I am glad to inform the Board of Directors we now have four new Certified Instructor of

Beginner Archer coaches in 2013.

These coaches are Nicole Theriault from E.S.D.C. Tir A L’Arc Archery Club, Travis McLeod

from Scotian Bowmen Archery Club, Bruce Graves from the C.F.B. Halifax Archery Club

and Greg Wile from Glooscap Archery Club.

The next step in the Long Term Athlete Development process for the clubs will be to get their

Trained Coaches to attain Certified Coach status by completing the Portfolio requirements.

We held an Instructor of Intermediate Archers Course in New Minas in August.

Here we had to change the course date from June to August because of scheduling conflicts.

With some cancelling in the last two weeks before the course we ended up having only three

Coaches attend, one of which was Lindsey Poehl.

For him this was an update to the courses he’d already taken but is a necessary checkmark on

his résumé to becoming a Learning Facilitator for the Instructor of Intermediate Archers

context.

We should have enough coaches interested to hold an Instructor of Intermediate Archers

Course in 2014.

Canada Winter Games Report

November 17, 2013

Nova Scotia has currently 18 registered Canada Games core team members. 6 female

compound shooters, 4 male compound shooters, 5 female recurve shooters, 3 male

recurve shooters and 7 archers in training some with posted scores that have not yet

signed the letter of intent. All unsigned archers must have a signed letter of intent

submitted before July 31, 2014 to be able to continue as a Canada Games athlete.

Training is ongoing with most coaches/parents/athletes reporting their athletes’ progress

to me but more detail is needed with in these reports, vague reports usually have

questions emailed back for more details.

There were 3 qualifiers held this year with 21 archers scoring rounds, 5 archers have

earned a qualifying score and ensured their position to be considered as a Canada

games contender.

This year care needs to be taken in picking dates and viable locations for Canada

Games qualifiers, these qualifiers are not only a stepping stone for team placement but

is also used as a bench mark for me to observe how the athletes are progressing with

their training at that particular stage of their training program. Consultation with the

Canada Games coach of facility and date changes needs to happen prior to the Canada

Games qualifier to ensure a fair and level playing field for all athletes.

Restrictions on the Canada Games coach’s travel needs to stop so I can do my job in

visiting club coaches with in the province. I feel that all clubs, coaches, and athletes are

equal and deserve my attention when called upon for a visit. This service is important

for coach and athlete development for short-term gain and long-term excellence.

Respectfully submitted

Note added in editing this newsletter: Lindsey Poehl announced his resignation as our Canada Games

coach on November 17, 2013 at our Board of Directors meeting and he confirmed his resignation by

email on December 6, 2013 effective December 31, 2013.

2015 CANADA WINTER GAMES - Indoor Archery Event - Athlete selection process

The Archers Association of Nova Scotia (AANS) is looking for young archers wishing to represent Nova Scotia at the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George, British Columbia.

All interested archers must contact Tom Riley (AANS Vice President Target) at 1-902-229-4333 or at [email protected]; Jason March (Canada Games Coach) at 1-902-270-2371 or at [email protected]; or Ricky Comeau (Provincial Coach) at 1-902-769-2090 or at [email protected] or BEFORE JULY 31, 2014 in order to be considered for the Canada Games Archery Core Team.

Archers must be AANS members and be under 22 years of age as of January 1, 2015, i.e., born in the calendar year 1993 or later.

Archers must also sign a Canada Games Letter of Intent that is available on the AANS.ca website and send it to the AANS Vice President Target. This places the archer on the Nova Scotia Canada Games Archery Core Team.

For more information regarding Canada Games go to: www.canadagames.ca

2015 Canada Winter Games dates: February 12 to March 1, 2015.

Canada Games Archery consists of:

Qualifying Round: Two FITA 1 rounds shot at 18m on vertical 3-spot 40 cm faces.

Individual Elimination Round: The top 16 archers of each gender and bow-type are seeded according to their positions as determined by their total scores in the Qualification Round.

Team Elimination Round: The top 8 teams of two (2) competitors by bow type will be seeded according to their total scores in the Qualification Round.

Team composition: 1 recurve male, 1 recurve female

1 compound male, 1 compound female

Nova Scotia Canada Games Archery Team selection criteria:

Core team archers must submit a minimum of six scores shot at designated FITA 1 events shot at 18 m on vertical 3-spot 40 cm faces, including Canada Games qualifying tournaments, AANS Provincial Indoor tournaments, Archery Canada 2013 and/or 2014 Indoor Regional Events or Archery Canada sanctioned out of province tournaments. Two of these must have been shot outside the archer’s club between January 1, 2013 and November 30, 2014.

Archers have to submit their signed score cards within two weeks of an event to the AANS Vice President Target and the Canada Games Coach in order to be used to determine ranking. Scoring for recurve archers and compound archers is different. Recurve archers will use the outer 10 circle and compound archers will use the inner 10 circle. Minimum scores must be:

Recurve men 500 (outer ten), Recurve women 496 (outer ten).

Compound men 509 (inner ten), Compound women 496 (inner ten).

These scores are 85% of the current national junior FITA 18 m record.

The average of the 6 best scores, two of which can be scores from 2013 tournaments and four of which must be from 2014 tournaments (two of which must have been shot outside the home zone) will determine the average score.

This average score may have bonus points added to or deleted from it as per the following:

For each clinic or AC registered FITA 1 event offered that is not compulsory and that an archer attends, 1 bonus point will be added, to a maximum of 10 bonus points, to their average score for ranking purposes.

A monthly report by each athlete’s coach, updating the athlete’s progress should be submitted by email, starting January 1, 2013, to the AANS Vice President Target and the Canada Games Coach. A missed report without a satisfactory reason will result in a subtraction of 1 point from the archer’s earned bonus points.

Attendance at the Canada Games Archery trials in August 2014 is compulsory. The trials will be held on one weekend and matchplay and team event will be offered.

If the top average ranking scores in any division are within 2% of each other a match play shoot off will then be the determining factor for selection to the Canada Games Archery Team. Final Team selection will be after the last Canada Games Archery Team Qualifier in November 2014.

A Nova Scotia Archery team training camp will be held in January 2015. Attendance is compulsory, other clinics that are offered are not compulsory but attendance will be taken.

ATTENTION ALL AANS MEMBERS AND CLUBS:

RE: 2015 CANADA WINTER GAMES

For preparation of Nova Scotia’s Archery Team to the indoor archery event at the 2015 Canada Winter Games, AANS and the Nova Scotia Archery Core Team is searching for clubs willing to hold the following events:

Registered FITA 1 indoor tournaments between January 1, 2013 and November 30, 2014. These events will be 18-meter FITA Round (60 arrows) shot at 40cm target faces and 18-meter matchplay.

- Vertical 3-spot faces are requested to be used for Core Team participants.

- AANS needs interested clubs throughout the province.

- Interested Clubs must have a minimum club-level certified judge on hand and at least 3 competitors participating in the event.

One site is needed for the Provincial team training camp to be held on a weekend in January 2015.

- Vertical 3-spot faces are obligatory for this event.

Since archers must be 21-years of age or younger, billeting opportunities would be appreciated as some archers may be traveling from other areas to compete.

Note:

All tournaments should be registered with AANS at your earliest possible convenience. Last date for registering tournaments for 2014 is at the AANS Director’s Meeting in November, 2013.

All these tournaments will be for archers registered in the Core Team, as well as anyone else wanting to shoot them except for the Provincial Training camp and the Canada Games Archery Trials Event.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Cape Breton Bowmen 2013

The Cape Breton Bowmen had a strong year in 2013 remaining financially stable. Our numbers

were steady during the indoor season where we held weekly shooting on Sunday evenings at the

Point Aconi Road Community Hall. Starting this fall we are excited to be moving our indoor

shooting to the Canadian Coast Guard College.

We had a strong increase in numbers through the spring and summer at our Wednesday evening

weekly 3D shoots at our Frenchvale Property. The increase in numbers was mostly made up of

women and youth which is encouraging.

We had the opportunity to provide an archery session at the Atlantic Burn Camp in August. We

also held our Annual Francis Shebib Memorial shoot at Camp Carter on the Labour Day

weekend again this year, the turnout was excellent, and a good time was had by all.

The club is looking forward to a strong year in 2014 and is investigating ways to help increase

membership.

Glooscap Heritage Archers Association

First of all I would like to thank all Archers from the Maritimes that have supported our Club and

Shoots in 2013. We kicked off the Outdoor 3-D Season in Feb. With the Frozen Finger on Feb. 24th in

conjunction with TAANS. We had 98 shooters in attendance. Great time had by all.

We had a 3-D outdoor fun shoot on April 24th with 62 Shooters in Attendance. Then we had our

Annual George Ackroyd Memorial shoot on Sept. 15th with 46 shooters which was very much needed to

get our new club going as i will soon explain.

We as a Club continue to promote Archery in our area Our Club is open 7 days a week offering

outdoor and indoor shooting 20 yards or 18 meter indoors. We also have walking trails through the

woods which are used a lot in the summer for people to walk their dogs. In the winter you can snow

shoe and there is a good hill for kids to go coasting.

We have had Kings Edge Hill students join our Club to practice part of their sports program. I feel

they will be back this winter season. Greg Wile has put on a bow making course with some of our

members making their own long bows. Greg also is teaching good shooting form and breathing skills to

our youth and adults. We continue to work on our grounds and upkeep of the club house. We are very

positive as an Association on moving forward from here which is sad but needs to be said.

Glooscap Archery Club (The jury is out on this one 1962) Oldest formed Archery Club in Nova

Scotia is no more. 3 of our past executive are under an RCMP investigation into spending of club funds.

Not only the Club funds but also collecting money for AANS Membership that AANS never received. I

have spent the past 3 months back tracking all our Club cheques and outstanding unpaid bills to a

depletion of Club funds over a 14 month spending spree.

We have had to form a new organization in order to get our lease on the land back. We have

formed a new executive and are starting over. What we have learned from this is any member who has

a concern needs to be heard and monthly meeting are a must. A financial report with a bank statement

should go no longer than quarterly. As members when we are not happy with how a Club is run stand up

for your beliefs and don't walk away. When a member or members have concerns call a meeting and

keep pushing till it happens. As a member of this club since 1969 i feel bad not about the money loss its

more so for the passed on members who put their time and effort into making the Club what it was.

Their dedication into the time they spent in making it possible to learn this great sport. I if given a

chance will explain in more detail at the AGM. A special thank-you to our sponsors and Archers Edge for

donating 2 targets on our start up shoot.

I now know how important it is to be a member of the AANS and am proud of it. The support we

have had through this has been fantastic. We at the GLOOSCAP HERITAGE ARCHERS ASSOCIATION look

forward to serving all archers of all ages and to make the time spent with us as enjoyable as possible.

We might have been down but are not giving up. Hope to see you at our Shoots in 2014.

Thank you all,

Northumberland Strait Shooters Archery Club

Northumberland had a very active year with a total of 50 members. Our regular archers and Para-archers both groups held weekly shoots on Tuesdays and Thursdays respectfully.

Our Para-group joined with the Tuesday group for the summer and we attended several 50m shoots at St. Mary's and Scotia Bowmen.

We developed a new 3D range in Thorburn and now have both a short course and a longer course set up. Two 3D shoots were held on the long course, and we held a club shoot on the new in early September. It should prove to be much dryer than the long course.

We just finished an open house followed by a 3 week Intro to archery course and are hoping to pick up some new members from it.

For 2014 we are planning to expand our Para-archery program and offer an afternoon program when public transportation is available. Hopefully this will allow more to participate.

Yours in Sport.

Queens Archers 2013 report to AANS

We had a fairly busy year. We had one new club judge pass his exams this year, that makes a total

of three club judges. Three members have taken the RSO (Range Safety Officer) exams, now we

have Five Safety officers. Two members attended the coaches clinic, now we have two coaches in

training.

The club put on three, 3-D shoots. Two had good turnouts while one was not so good due to Rain.

Three members attended Caledonia school in North Queens and put on archery lessons for six

weeks in early spring.

This summer shooting lessons and demonstrations were put on at Raddall Provincial Park as part of

their park days.

This summer we also participated in the Privateers Days held in Liverpool with a float in the parade

and a booth where people could shoot. The booth was enjoyed by both young and older shooters.

Two members attended the Wood Lot of the year Award in Caledonia where they put on shooting

and demonstration.

There was also club shoots at Valentines Day, Christmas and a fall get together and BBQ.

We are at an all time high for memberships, with singles, families and Juniors at 78 members.

This year again we will be shooting indoor at Port Mouton Rec. Hall starting on Nov. 14, we also

have a 90 meter range and a15 butt field course next to the clubhouse.

Recap of 2013: Lunenburg Rod and Gun Club Archery Committee

This year in 2013 we held two 3D shoots here at the Lunenburg Rod and Gun club. Our first shoot

was in March 2013. This shoot was attended by over 60 archers and overall was very successful.

Our second shoot was the 2013 Provincials held over two days on July 20 & 21, and was attended

by archers from all over Nova Scotia. This shoot was very profitable, and within budget. In total we

took in double the amount of money that a regular shoot would take in. This shoot was widely

praised for our set up, organization, and all around efforts of shoot organizers. Also in early spring

and again in late summer, we held two “mini” 3D shoots on two of our regular outdoor Thursday

night shoots. These were attended by club members only.

It was decided to spend the remainder of our 2013 budget on 3D targets for next year’s shoots

held at our club. The Lunenburg Rod and Gun club now owns 19 targets of its own. The club

should own a minimum of 20 targets so we don’t have to keep borrowing targets from private

members in the future.

For The Year 2014

For the year of 2014, we plan on holding two more 3D shoots here at the Lunenburg Rod and Gun

club. Since joining the Lunenburg Rod and Gun Club, the Archery committee has had extremely

good weather for all of our shoots, and we hope this luck continues for the 2014 year. This winter

we still plan on shooting indoors in the indoor range every Thursday night. Once spring comes and

the weather gets warm again we will be shooting outside and plan on having 2 more “mini” 3D

shoots for club members only again, one in late spring and another during the summer.

We plan on buying a minimum of two more targets with our 2014 budget, one to complete our set

of 20, and one for a spare in case one gets worn out or damaged during an event. We are also

looking into running another bow raffle to sell tickets on.

For those of you who don’t know we have started a Face book page called “Lunenburg Rod and

Gun Club, Archery Division”. Here we keep our followers updated on upcoming shoot information,

regular Thursday night shoot information, as well as post pictures of shoots that we hold, as well

as shoots our club members attend. We are also open to answer any questions our followers may

have related to our club and our sport, and we will continue to keep it updated.

2013 YEAR END REPORT E.S.D.C. Tir A L’Arc

We at this time have 18 members.

Most of the work we’re doing right now is concentrated on the beginner and the younger up and coming archers. Our archers range in ages from 9- 69 years of age with the highest percentage being students, either in school or university.

We are helping out in the school with their NASP archery program and have incorporated some of the NASP rules into our practices. All of our beginner archers start out with NASP bows.

We have our practices and weekly shoots in the Gym of the local high school, E.S.D.C. in Meteghan River, on Thursday evenings from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.

Visitors and new archers are always welcome.

Antigonish Archery Association 149 Pomquet, Antigonish, Nova Scotia, B2G 2L4

November 15, 2013

This past year the Antigonish Archery Association hosted an AANS 3D outdoor shoot. This shoot was very successful with 154 registered participants which required the addition of a second course.

Our club volunteers were also very active in promoting the NASP in local schools. We hosted 3 local high schools’ Physical Education classes at an outdoor competition where approximately 100 students took part. We also participated in Health Fairs at local high schools where we introduced 3D shooting to students from grades 7-12. Over 350 students shot arrows at targets. Volunteers also partnered with recreation committees to host sessions during summer kids’ programs.

With continued support from our sponsors and also our county councillors we have been able to continue with club upgrades to our facilities. With new sponsors committed for the 2014 shoot, it will be bigger and better than ever.

We hope to see you at our shoot and please pass on an open welcome for all to attend.

The participants in attendance were very pleased with Northumberland for putting together such an excellent shoot and congratulations to them on their new course. Everyone seems to be excited to see their course improvements for this up and coming season.

I would also like to acknowledge the AANS 3D Vice President and executive for their efforts to improve and promote 3D archery in Nova Scotia. I am eager to participate in any partnership related to promoting 3D archery in Nova Scotia. I believe that the discussion group led by 3D VP Rodney Misener at last year’s provincials is the start of many new improvements to come.

Many thanks go out to all of the volunteers throughout last season for their commitment and effort. I am looking forward to seeing everybody at this year’s 3D shoot in Antigonish.

Respectfully submitted,

Jonathan MacKenzie President 3D Shooters Association Home Contact: (902) 863-0926 Email: [email protected]

CFB HALIFAX ARCHERY CLUB ANNUAL REPORT

The CFB Halifax Archery Club had an extremely busy year and trying season in 2013. Due to the on-going problem with the building infrastructure and the military’s concern for safety, the CFB Halifax Archery Club had to close during the winter months from January to March due to snow load concerns on the roof of the Drill Shed. This caused the Club to move their scheduled shoots to other locations in the Province. The CFB Halifax Archery Club would like to thank the Osprey Archery Club and Millbrook for hosting two of CFB’s shoots. Unfortunately, both the Bruce Scott 3D Competition and the Provincial 3D shoot could not be rescheduled but both these shoots will be held 7-8 Dec 13 prior to competitive shooting in the New Year.

The2012/2013 season continued to see membership surge to over two hundred members due to the popular beginner’s program started last season. A significant number of youth make up the majority of these new archers trying the sport for the first time. The CFB Halifax Archery Club’s “Beginner’s Night” teaches new archers Safety, Etiquette and Form prior to shooting on regular shoot nights at the Club. The response has continued to be overwhelming as over two hundred people were processed through the program and continuing with the remaining two hundred and fifty this season.

The Club has continued its spending spree by refurbishing the target material in its ten butts which should keep them solid for another couple of years.

The CFB Halifax Archery Club Executive and membership wish all Nova Scotian archers a great shooting season.

May your aim be true and your arrows fly straight.

Pinegrove Archers Club Report

Our club is not doing so good with membership, we are down to only 5 members and I'm not

sure exactly of the number because we never had our general meeting yet for the upcoming year.

Financially we did ok with the two shoots we hosted this year.

Program Reporting - Activities Undertaken

Competitions: In 2013 Osprey Archery Club hosted 3 major archery competitions at our facility

in Shad Bay. On March 3 Osprey AC hosted the Canadian Indoor Regionals FITA I (18 meters)

competition. On June 02 we had the 3-D Mike Delaney Memorial Shoot. On September 07 we

hosted the Archers Association of Nova Scotia Outdoor Field Provincial shoot. Osprey AC also

organized and hosted several unscheduled outdoor FITA competitions during the summer and

fall. Our field course has been open all year round for members and guests to enjoy and practice

archery.

Summer archery day camp: During the summer of 2013 Osprey AC hosted a 1 week long

archery day camp for youth. Archers were exposed to 3 styles of archery, including 3D, FITA,

and Field archery. The camp was organized by parents and run by Bruce Graves, one of our

expert club coaches.

Club members shooting: Osprey AC currently has 38 individual and family members. During

the winter months our club has been particularly active 2 evenings a week with indoor 18 meter

shooting. One evening is reserved for women archers. Several youth on the Canada Games core

team train with their coach, Bruce Graves, at Osprey AC on Saturdays. At the 2013 Canadian

Target, Field and 3D Championships in Woodstock NB, 7 members of Osprey AC participated

and they won 2 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze medal.

Fund raising: Corporate sponsor this year is: JD’s Shooting & Fishing Supplies Ltd. We

purchased a booth at the spring Atlantic Outdoor and RV show at the Exhibition Park in March

and sold draw tickets on fabulous draw prizes. At the RV show we promoted archery in general

and our club to the outdoor sports community. In addition, Osprey AC hosted a booth at the Guy

Show, Nov 8 to 10, 2013 at Exhibition Park, and again promoted archery to the general public.

Building & grounds: Osprey AC provides a year round Sport and Recreation facility with

indoor and outdoor shooting. In the woods we have an established field course and several

courses for setting of 3D targets. Also outdoors we have a 90 meter range for target shooting.

Indoors we have an 18 meter range where 6 to 8 archers can shoot comfortably. The Osprey AC

also is environmentally friendly and supports wildlife and habitat protection. The woodland is

also used by local residents for other recreation activities such as dog walking (on and off leash),

bird watching, cross country skiing, trail bike riding, camping, and hunting and fishing. Our

woodlands provide habitat for wildlife, most notably osprey, bald eagles, foxes, mink, raccoons,

deer, rabbits, and lynx. For community members enjoying the wildlife and environment, we

have no fees.
