Since there was no Homeowners Association meeting in October
there can be no Meeting Highlights in this issue of the Vintage
Voice, The following items have been contributed by variousmembers of the HOA and are included for your information.
ffiffiffiVintage Gardens is a nice place to live in large part
because of the volunteers that do everything from
taking care of the grounds to delivering the newsletters.
The Board would like to thank the volunteers by
hosting a reception for them on Sunday, November 3rd from 3-5 PM
at the clubhouse. All volunteers are encouraged to attend.

One of the most popular types of mulching material is
cypress. However, cypress mulch has a few drawbacks
when compared to other types. Some of these include
durability, color, and a harmful effect on the environment.
This article discusses some of the disadvantages of using
mulch.
Environment: Cypress trees only grow in certain areas, so cutting
them down to make cypress mulch will cause extensive damage to
the ecosystem.
Water: This type of mulch is very water absorbent and can hold a
lot of water. This will prevent most irrigation and rainfall from
reaching the soil.
Growth: Besides the fact that it can keep plants from growing
properly, this type of mulch usually doesn't last as long as other
types.
Durability: Other types of mulch, such as pine bark, can last up to
three years before ngeding more mulch. Cypress mulch will likely
need to be renewed at least every year.

Golor: Unfortunately, the color of cypress mulch
fades fairly quickly. The color can'also be washed
away by heavy rain.
More detail: Five Disadvantages of Cypress Mulch
- Yahoo Voices - voices, yahoo.com.
Grounds Committee uses the black bark mulch; the
best is Gorilla Hair mulch, but it is more expensive.
Premium Cedar Mulch is the best.
Vintage Gardens 2 &3 is a special
place to live! lt offers attractive, well
maintained homes & lawns with wide
streets & well placed sidewalks within
the common areas. These features
afford residents the opportunity to stroll, to "power
walk" & to bicycle. Such privileges are especially
appreciated by those who rely on their canes and/or
walkers.
It has come to the attention of the HOA Board that
these privileges are being threatened by a few
residents who are allowing their dogs to walk "at
liberty" off leash. The DCCR specifically requires
that no dog be permitted outside the owner's home
or enclosed lawn area unless it clearly is restrained
on a leash. Some owners also have been observed
letting dogs outside at night for a final "potty break"
while the owner remains inside the home.' ln
accordance with of DCCR, these practices need to
be discontinued.
It is believed that conscientious, responsible
neighbors will follow the rules for the good of the
entire community and thus, the problem will be
solved.
Our development is acknowledged by realtors to be
the most desirable of patio home properties in the.
OKC ares. Obviously this enhances property values
for each of us. Good citizenship requires that we all
fulfill our individual responsibilities for the
betterment of Vintage Gardens 2 &3.
{.l;TII1Ttfi li,fi ft-r-lt,Sfr sThe annual shutdown of the
residential sprinkler systems
will be finished by the end of the
week beginning October 271h.
The weather has cooperated
so that the association has been able to delay
the shutoff which generally takes place in the
middle of October. Residents are reminded
that the purpose of the shutdown is to prevenl
damage to the anti-siphon devices. lf you
prefer to manage your own system please

A new SmartHours thermostat has
been installed in the clubhouse. The
unit has programmed to run when events are
scheduled in the clubhouse. Over the long run this
system should help use less energy. This
thermostat is free and is designed to use less
energy and thereby lower energy bills during the
year. While the unit is programmed to realize
savings it does have a flexible system to temporarily
override the established program. This may be
done by simply pushing the warm or cool button to
set a temporary new temperature after which the
button on the left side can be pushed to accept the
new temperature for a short period of time after
which it will revert to the preprogrammed settings.
The Vintage Gardens October Yard
of the Month was presented to Jean
NW 161st Street. Jean is an original owner of this
property and has always done a fantastic job of
maintaining a year-round beautiful yard! She has a
variety of shrubs and seasonal color and her Fall
decorations are a true sign of the changing season.
There were many nominations for Yard of the Month
in October and it was difficult to select just two for
honorable mention. However, after much
discussion the following yards were chosen for
special recognition: Robert and Mary Lou Gray,
1808 NW 161st Street, and Janice Rudolph, 16105
Napa Ridge.
We would like to thank everyone for their efforts in
maintaining their yards in a way that makes the
community more attractive. A project isunderuray to rework the landscaping at the
front gate. lt was hoped that this would be
completed this Fall, however it has been
difficult to obtain landscaping designs/bids
and therefore completion may be delayed until
Spring.
Yard of the Month winners are chosen by the
HOA Beautification Committee and receive a
$25 gift card from TLC Nursery. During the
months of November, December, January,
February and March the yard of the month
sign will be hibernating for the winter and will
reappear in April.
ln October the Lunch Bunch
(formerly "The Red Hats")
canceled their date due to
pouring rain. They will be going out on
Monday November 11th to Cracker Barrel.
They will meet at 11 15 AM at the Clubhouse
parking lot. lf you would like to go with this
fun group call Elsie Schatz at 359-6357. All
are welcome.
