As you will have noticed, the children have recently been put into houseteams. The four house teams (named after famous Romanian castles –Bran, Peles, Rasnov and Corvin) will be competing to score the mostpoints in order to win the INSPE house point cup at the end of the
school year. Children can win points for their house team by exhibitinggood manners, kindness, determination and great effort during class and
specialist lessons. Children can also win house points by performing atupcoming inter house competitions – such as sports day, book quiz andmany other fun surprises we have lined up over the course of the year. Each house has two captains who are responsible for encouragingtheir team to win more points and counting all the house points in theschool each week. You can keep track of who has the most house points
by checking our house points graph at the front of the school. Good
luck to all involved.

SLF enables practitioners todevelop skills and expertisewhich will help them ensurethey plan and deliver learn-ing experiences which ap-propriately challenge and
engage their learners and which support learn-
ers to achieve their potential.Nationally and in-ternationally, SLF is a rendezvous for allthose interested in improving education. It is
a platform to share information, highlight in-novation and showcase best practice. In addi-tion to providing continuing professionallearning opportunities, one of the most impor-
tant opportunities theScottish Learning Fes-tival provides to par-
ticipants from across
the learning landscape,is the abundant oppor-
tunity to network with others.
Last summer I chose to renew my first
aid training in England. InSPE funded the
instruction as part of my professional
development. The course I chose was
provided by one of the UK’s largest firstaid charities – the St. John Ambulance.
They train thousands of employees and
volunteers every year. My course fo-
cused specifically on paediatric first aid
and it is extremely valuable in a nursery/
primary setting. After
two days instruction
and active participa-
tion I gained my new
first aid certificate.

This year InSPE has decided to create a platform that would help you get in touch with real needs in the community of Bucharest bylinking the parents and staff members with a specific charity thatwe can support throughout the years. Last Saturday a team from our school visited the Harap-Alb orphanage located in sector 4. Even though the building has recently been renovated and
refurnished we have been surprised at the reality that the 58 orphans that live there, (agedbetween 1 and 8 )do not have their own playground ,do not have winter clothes and shoes and
end up staying inside for most of the cold season. We also noticed the real lack of toys and
reading books that can stimulate their mental and physical development.
Here are some specific ways in which you can help:
Offer your time and affection to the children in need!
There is always a need for people to get involved personally by playing
with the children regularly, and offering them affection. For further in-formation about how you can get involved please contact Ana David, a
member of our staff at [email protected]
We are looking forward to partnering with you in bring-
ing some change to these unprivileged kids that need us!The Charity Committee
We are going to put a donation box in thehallway of our school where you can placewinter clothes and shoes that could be usedby children between ages 1 and 8. We would
be very grateful if you could also donate
toys, puzzles, books and baby toys .
InSPE will organize a shoe box gift appeal.Starting in November you can register toprovide this special gift at the school office
where you can find a list with the children’s
names and ages.
The Christmas Production of orphan chil-dren gathered from different foster careshelters and orphanages from sector 4
will be held in the second weekend of De-cember. We encourage you to participateand purchase a 20 lei entrance ticket
from the office. Further details aboutthe time and place will be announcedthrough the School Gazette, Facebookand e-mail.The money will go towards
sponsoring their yearly summer camp.
Don’t miss this year’s special

Green Class has enjoyed learning about our-
selves, families and homes. We made lovely selfportraits on paper plates and read the story ofGoldilocks and the three bears. The children
enjoyed playing with the bear family and pre-tending to be Goldilocks in our role play area.We even had a porridge snack made by mummybear herself! This week we also finished ourbig project: we made a house out of cardboard
that we painted and furnished ourselves! We are learning to share and take turns when we
play with it.
In Orange Class we have enjoyedlearning all about our families. In ourrole play area we played in thekitchen where we pretended to cook
food for our friends and then in thewater area we washed the dishes. We loved making cookies, mixing the
ingredients, then baking them in theoven and eating them for snack. They
were delicious!
Pink class chil-dren are slowly
starting to be-
come settled. They are beginningto enjoy playing alongside their classmates and
are exploring more activities every day. Themessy activities are among the main attractions.
For several weeks our main focus in Pink Class isto encourage the children to increase their mo-bility and to get involved in various physical ac-
tivities. Therefore, the role play area has turned into a gym where the children have fun go-ing through a tunnel, building with big soft cubes or playing with balls and beanbags. Theyalso love joining in with finger rhymes and listening to songs about body parts.

Primary 1a had an amazing start of the school year!
The children had a chance to experience life in the primaryschool. We explored the different areas in the classroom and
decided behavior rules for working together in a friendly at-
mosphere. We also talked about ourselves and our families, so we can get to know the newchildren as well.
Our second project was `Our School`. We interviewed different people who help us learnand who take care of us while we are in school. You will be able to read our books about them!We also took a tour of the school, so everybody now knows where the ICT room, Library ,
roof and court playgrounds are and where the other year groups learn.
`The snake is in the grass….` As we started the Jolly Phonics program, we are very proud of
how good we are with the first sounds we can now read and write!
Primary 1B have had a busy start to the year. We had funlearning nursery rhymes and painting pictures of the charac-ters. We even made papier mache Humpty Dumptys! We have
been singing number songs and working with the numbers 1-10. The children have started to
learn phonics and have enjoyed singing the songs and doing the actions. They have also beenlearning how to write the sounds. Now that we are in Primary 1 we can also use the roof play-
ground!
In Primary 2 we have been learning all about Percy the
park-keeper and his animal friends. We have a Percy hutin our classroom and we have been doing many activities
based on the Percy books and about the animals that live in the forest. We asked the
children to write about Percy and this is what they had to say...

Primary 3 is learning about Energy this half term. So far wehave investigated that energy can be light. We looked at whatsound is and how it travels. We experimented with drums and
made our own string telephones to find out that all sound is
vibrations. Next we experimented with thermometers both indoors and outdoors and discov-ered that our weather can be very hot! Children made their own Shadow Puppet Theatre and
their own puppets. They also made their own Mini Greenhouses in order to explore thegrowth of a bean seed. We look forward to discovering all about motion and heat as part of
our exciting topic Energy.
P4 have been learning about the history of Bucharest during
the last 200 years by looking at the buildings and discovering
the stories they can tell us about the past. Yonatan wrote this
about our class visit to Northern Bucharest.
Architecture Visit By Yonatan Temelie
On Friday 20th September P4 went to northern Bucharest. We went to look at buildings. Wewere learning about the past.
First we went to the Minici House. Then we went to Floreasca park where we ate lunch. Af-
ter lunch we went to play. We had lots of fun on the zip wire and slide.
Traveling Through Time
We have been learning about the 20TH Century in our class-room. We learned about how people in the 20th century lived
and changes throughout the century in food, clothing, technol-
ogy, toys, entertainment, schools, shopping and transport.
We learned how family habits changed over time as well as how people didn’t watch TV when
they were eating and ate together at the table as a family.
We have made our own instrument like a guitar and thought about how we could change the
pitch.
