Research Starting Points

AO1 Not started specific to brief. One of your research tasks was to write exactly what you mean in your brief by Surrealist concerns. Surely you need to know this to be able to respond practically.

AO1:

Target grade for Practical Response project: B

Next steps:

Unfortunately you are going to have to repeat or create a similar surreal image to those you have already done and screen grab every step. You MUST document the process and include the images pre any editing. You are losing valuable marks.

Define the ‘surrealist concerns’ you mention in your practical brief. Use these to develop your ideas. For example you may want to illustrate a dream you had. Watch this dream sequence designed by Dali for Hitchcock’s film, ‘Spellbound’: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzxlbgPkxHE

Watch this scene from Chien Andalou by Dali and Bunuel. It’s a little scary.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNZCtRUy2Gw

Experiment with creating surreal landscapes. Look at the series of Duane Michals and how

they play with our perception of reality.
