ՎերամուտըՄերտինեան ՀայԱւետարանականՎարժարանէն Ներս

Երկուշաբթի, Օգոստոս 21-ին,Մերտինեան Հայ Աւետարա-նական Վարժարանը, բոլորհայ կրթօճախներուն հետհամատեղ, երկու ամիսներուվրայ երկարող ամրան արձա-կուրդէն ետք, իր դռները բա-ցաւ իր աշակերտներուն ուծնողներուն դիմաց ու 2017-2018 տարեշրջանը սկսաւ նորտեսլականով, նոր մարտա-հրաւէրներով։ Բացման հան-դիսութիւնը տեղի ունեցաւվարժարանիս «Արամ եւԱնայիս Տ. Պուլղուրճեան»սրահին մէջ։ Աշակերտներէնբացի ներկայ էին Վեր. ԱրաՉագրեան, վարժարանիսպատկան մարմիններու ներ-կայացուցիչներ եւ մեծ թիւովծնողներ։ Յայտագիրը սկսաւպետական եւ ազգային ուխ-տով եւ ապա քայլերգներովՏիկ. Ալիս Տէր Գէորգեանի ղե-կավարութեամբ եւ աշակերտ-ներու կատարողութեամբ,որուն յաջորդեց Սաղմոս 121-ի արտասանութիւնը, կրօնիբաժանմունքի պատասխա-նատու Տիկ. Լենա Էքմէքճեանիառաջնորդութեամբ։Վարժարանիս տնօրէնուհիՏիկ. Լինա Արսլանեանը բարիգալուստի խօսքերով ողջու-նեց ներկաները եւ փառքտուաւ Աստուծոյ՝ իր ընծայած

բարիքներուն եւ նոր ուսում-նական տարեշրջան մըսկսելու առիթին համար։ Անկարեւորեց հայկական կրթօ-ճախներու դերը սփիւռքի մէջհասակ առած մանուկի ինք-նութեան ճանաչման ուամրապնդման հոլովոյթին մէջ։Դրուատեց ծնողները, որոնքգիտակից հայ վարժարանիդերին ի գին ամէն զոհողու-թեան յանձն կ՛առնեն իրենցմանուկը առաջնորդել դէպիհայ վարժարան։ Ապա Տիկ.Արսլանեան ներկայացուց2017-2018 տարեշրջանիուսուցչական կազմն ու պաշ-տօնէութիւնը, բոլորին մաղ-թելով առողջ, յաջող եւ իրա-գործումներով լի տարեշրջանմը։ Տիկ. Արսլանեան վերջինխօսքը ուղղեց ծնողներուն,յանձնարարելով, որ սերտկապեր ունենան դպրոցինհետ՝ կամաւոր ծառայութիւն-ներ մատուցելով անոր։ Ապաան հրաւիրեց վարժարանիսհոգաբարձութեան կազմիատենապետ՝ Դոկտ. ՎահէՆալպանտեանը, որ աշա-կերտներուն իր բարի գա-լուստի խօսքը ու բարեմաղ-թութիւնները փոխանցեց։Վեր. Արա Չագրեանի մաղ-թանքներով, օրհնութեանաղօթքով եւ տէրունականաղօթքի երգեցողութեամբյայտագիրը վերջ գտաւ։Աշակերտները ուղղուեցանիրենց դասարանները՝սկսելու իրենց 2017-2018տարեշրջանի առաջին օրը։

Նոյն օրը ժամը 9։ՅՕ-ին տեղիունեցաւ նաեւ ՄերտինեանՎարժարանի Նախաման-կապարտէզի վերամուտիհանդիսութիւնը։ Վարժա-րանիս տնօրէնուհին բարիգալուստ մաղթեց բոլորին,անհրաժեշտ տեղեկութիւն-ները տուաւ ներկաներուն։Sիկին Սիւզի Պարտաքճեանիաղօթքէն ետք, խօսք առաւՆախամանկապարտէզիպատասխանատու Տիկ.Մարիժան Գէորգեանը, որ իրկարգին ողջունեց հին ու նործնողները, վստահեցնելովզանոնք, որ ՄերտինեանիՆախամանկապարտէզին մէջիրենց զաւակները պիտիվայելեն սէր, գուրգուրանք եւհոգածութիւն։ Ապա բոլորըուղղուեցան իրենց դասարան-ները, ուրկէ կէսօրին մեկնե-ցան տուն։Բարի վերադարձ դպրոց ուբարի տարի։

the new academic year of•2017-2018 welcomed newteachers at our school.

tania Avakian: fourth gradehomeroom and 5th gradereligion teacher. She holds abachelor’s degree and aMaster’s degree in education.“teaching has been a lifelongpassion of mine and being atMerdinian school whereeveryone treats each other asfamily, brings me joy!”this is her 8th year ofteaching.

naira nalbandyan: Secondgrade homeroom teacher. Sheholds a bachelor’s degree inLiberal Studies as well as aMaster’s degree in humandevelopment. this is her 7thyear teaching.“i am pleased to have theopportunity to contribute tothe Merdinian family, and itbrings me joy to teach 2ndgrade.”

Karinae babakhani: fifthgrade homeroom andKindergarten religion teacher.She has a bachelor’s degreein Sociology and a Master’sdegree in education. this isher 10th year teaching. “pastmemories of Merdinian hasbrought me back…” Mrs.Karinae has taught atMerdinian in the past.

Lara Atachian: Kindergartenthrough 8th grade Art teacher.this is her 9th year teaching.She studied Art education.“teaching Art is a dream cometrue, specially being able todo in the Armenian communi-ty.”

preSchooLthe new 2017-2018•

academic school year startedon August 21 with noticeableexcitement from the students,parents, and faculty. Mrs.Marijan welcomed the parentsand introduced the staff. thiswas followed by individualclassroom orientations.

back-to-School night on•August 25 was a successfulevent due to great parent turnout. parents were welcomedin the classrooms, where theteachers talked about the cur-riculum and expectations.

matters pertaining to allArmenian schools werediscussed.

teachers gathered on•September 13 in the teacher’sLounge for the traditionalbirthday celebrations of themonth of August/September.faculty and staff membersenjoyed delicious appetizersand sweets organized by ourSocial committee.

our principal, along with•principals of sister Armenianschools, met with Archbishophovnan derderian, primate ofthe Western diocese of theArmenian church, onSeptember 15. A number ofactivities were discussed tobring Armenian studentstogether including a programduring christmas, graduationclass visit to the diocese aswell as other projects.

our coach, Mr. Zorik•isajane, attended a meetingon September 27 regardingthe upcoming KAhAM gamesamong Armenian Schools.

grades 3rd through 8th•elected their representives onAugust 25. during this time,students prepared speechesand spent a week campaign-ing all around the school forthe Student council president,vice president, Secretary, andtreasurer. following thespeeches presented by thecandidates in chapel on

September 1, the 3rd-8thgraders completed theirballots to vote.

the Student council meetswith their advisors to plandifferent activities such assnack sales during morningrecess. proceeds of the saleswill be donated to the victimsof the recent hurricanes,Armenian fund, and othergood causes.

sChOOlsPiritour school spirit will skyrocketthis year with the formation ofa new committee called“School Spirit.”three parents, Marinegaladjian, tamar Yeghishian,and Lucy Makaryan are part ofthis committee that willdefinitely add more fun in ourstudent’s school life.their agenda is filled withexciting projects such asharvest day, paintinghopscotch on our playground,ice cream truck visit, recogni-tion of the students’ birthdaywith free dress days, andmany other fun filled projects. the committee already madea “colorful” entrance in thestudents’ school life whenthey distributed complimenta-

GuestA presentation took place onSeptember 15 by hrair hawkKhatcherian, a photographerwho spent years of capturingphotos of Armenian villages,people, churches, and khatch-kars. our 4th-8th graders hadthe opportunity to watch hisdocumentary about climbingMount Ararat. in the evening,close to 40 parents and facul-ty members attended Mr.Khatcherian’s presentationabout his latest two books,100 (1915-2015) andKhatchkars. this was followedby book signing and a smallreception hosted by our pto.

PtOon the first friday of everymonth, the pto will behosting a breakfast for ourparents to share ideas,connect with each other, andget updated about schoolmatters.the first breakfast, which tookplace on September 1, wasattended by nearly 25parents. “it’s been reallysuccessful,” said Mrs. Marinegaladjian, a pto member. theparents were able to meet theafter-school violin instructorand get information aboutother programs while enjoyingtheir morning coffee andsweets.

WOMen’sauxiliaryour Women’s Auxiliary held asuccessful garden party at thebeautiful Kassabian residenceon August 26. the pleasantevent attracted close to 90guests to raise funds for ourschool.

bAcK toSchooL nightover 66% of parents attendedthis informative night onfriday, August 25.the event began with ourtraditional Wine and cheesenight, hosted by our hardwork-ing pto, which allowed theattendees to enjoy deliciousfood and great company.

principal Lina Arslanian intro-duced the faculty/staff mem-bers, welcomed all attendees,and thanked parents for takingan active role in their children’sacademics. Mrs. Aznivghazanian and Mrs. Lucy uhl,the pto chairlady and vice-chairlady, shared their positiveexperiences and memories asbeing part of Merdinianparents, and encouraged theattendees to get involved intheir children’s academic lives.Mrs. tamar Yeghishian andMrs. Marine galadjian, mem-bers of the new School Spiritcommittee, spoke about theirnew and fun projects.following a prayer offered byboard Member, Ms. helen haig,parents were dismissed to visittheir children’s classrooms andget acquainted with thecurriculum, procedures, andexpectations.

ALuMnicornerKarin Kazanjian, Md, is aproud alumna of MerdinianSchool. She attendedMerdinian from preschoolthrough 8th grade, graduatingin 1995. She went on toattend campbell hall for highschool, where she excelledacademically. dr. Kazanjiancredits her academic successin high school to her teachersand experiences at Merdinian.She completed her undergrad-uate education at ucLA, grad-

uating with a degree inbiochemistry, Summa cumLaude. She subsequentlyattended the university ofcalifornia, San diego Schoolof Medicine where she earnedher Md in 2007. She pursuedher residency training indiagnostic radiology at LomaLinda university Medicalcenter followed by a fellow-ship in breast imaging. dr.Kazanjian currently practicesas staff radiologist atprovidence breast healthcenter in burbank, where sheenjoys providing the fullspectrum of breast imagingservices to the community.

As a child and young student,Merdinian was her secondhome. it laid the foundationfor a lifelong love for learning,which helped her successfullyachieve her academic andprofessional goals. it instilledand reinforced christianvalues and the Armenianidentity. More importantly, itnurtured the development ofcompassion, respect, andresponsibility.

She is married to dr. KevorkKazanjian, a colorectalsurgeon at ucLA. they arenow proud parents atMerdinian and are confidentthis school will lay the besteducational foundation fortheir young children.
