What is a verb?• the word class that serves as the predicate of a sentence• a content word that denotes an action, occurrence, or state of

existence

What is an adjective?

In grammar, an adjective is a word whose main syntactic role is to modify a noun or pronoun, giving more information about the noun or pronoun's

Example: Michigan is a very cold state in the winter time.

What is a noun?

• the word class that can serve as the subject or object of a verb, the object of a preposition, or in apposition

• a content word that can be used to refer to a person, place, thing, quality, or action

Example: George Washington was the first president of the United States.

What is an adverb?

• An adverb describes adverb, adjective, or another adverb.

Example: The butterfly flies high.

What is a pronoun?

• A pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun. Pronouns can be in one of three cases: Subject, Object, or Possessive.

Example: Sarah is very happy. She likes to ride her bike to school.

What is a preposition?

A preposition links nouns, pronouns and phrases to other words in a sentence. The word or phrase that the preposition introduces is called the object of preposition.

Example: The boy sat under the bridge.

Example: Amanda ran around the house.

Example: Henry and his grandfather walked through the woods.

What is a conjunction?• A conjunction is a linking word, connecting words, word groups,

sentences, or sentence groups.

Example: After dinner Joe and Katie ate ice cream. They both had a choice of either chocolate or strawberry flavor.
