A Dreaded Deed  We all know that there are things that we don’t like to do. Sometimes a special word comes to play when we put off the things that we should be doing. PROCRASTINATION is a nasty habit. Unfortunately, we all find ourselves procrastinating on things—usually the things we dislike doing the most. This week you need to practice doing things that you dread doing. With practice, we can face the things we dread and do them as quickly and efficiently as possible. This helps us to persevere when we are faced with real problems that we must endure. Below is a chart. Fill it out and stick to it this week.

Occupational Education    For each job in the world a different amount of education is required. Some require more, some require very little. A doctor for instance will require more education than say a maid. However if you like to clean and are afraid of the sight of blood, you would be more suited to being a maid than to being a doctor. However if you like to argue yourself out of predicaments and are really good at debating both sides of a point, perhaps being a lawyer is an even better fit than being a maid. Hmm, but that also requires more education than that of a maid. If that is what you chose to become as you become an adult, you will have to endure the full education needed to obtain a law degree and pass the bar exam to obtain your license to practice law. So this week, take some time to investigate your chosen field. Do you want to be that doctor, lawyer, maid, mechanic, architect? What education will you have to obtain? What licenses will you need to gain? What does it take? Which college will fit your chosen field and personality the best? Keep in mind that just because you are interested in a field and you look for information—this doesn’t mean you have to become it. This is just a look. So keep it fun, keep your options open, and dream a little!

Use the chart on the next page to give you some ideas on what information you may want to look into. Keep in mind this is just a brief summary. You will find more information than I can sum up onto one worksheet!! So you may want to get a file folder, print out one sheet per career that you investigate and staple it into the file on the left side. Then you can add in any print outs that you find which will be helpful to your search.

Keep in mind that even though you may be overwhelmed right now with all this information if you break it down and take it one step at a time, it will be a lot easier. And this IS just a look at what you might want to do. Also, if you find something that really sparks some interest and a college or school that you would like to obtain information from—request it! Then keep it in your file. This will be a great way to really get started on planning your future!

Talking to someone that is doing this task already can really provide some hard to find information. Such as how much time must you work each day to be successful? How often do you work outside the office? Is the education that you must obtain worth the effort? Are there any tips that they can offer to make obtaining your education easier? All these questions can be answered by someone that has already gone through it. I highly recommend finding someone in your local area in your chosen field.

Good luck and have fun! Remember, the sky is the limit—no not even the sky! Anything goes here—even going into space!

This is the unit wrap up for Unit 7: Perseverance. This will be stored in the following pocket.

The pioneers that trekked across the plains as the U.S. expanded showed a rare determination that inspires respect beyond measure.  They persevered through more hardships than most of us can comprehend.
