A course on Damage, Fatigue and Failure of Composite Materials by Prof. Dr. Ramesh Talreja June, 3th-5th 2013, at the Institute for Carbon Composites, Technische Universität München The Institute for Carbon Composites (LCC) is very happy to invite you to this 3 day course with Prof. Dr. Ramesh Talreja. The course is valuable for engineers and materials scientists in industry and academia. Course content (3 days): Understanding damage and failure of composite mate- rials is critical for reliable and cost-effective engineering design. Bringing together materials mechanics and mo- deling, this course provides a compact guide to damage, failure and fatigue of composite materials. On day 1 Prof. Talreja focuses on the underlying principles governing composite damage, reviewing basic equations and mechanics theory, before describing mechanisms of damage such as cracking, breakage and buckling. On day 2, the physical mechanisms underlying the forma- tion and progression of damage under mechanical loads are described with ample experimental data and micro- and macro-level damage models are combined. On day 3, fatigue of composite materials is discussed using fatigue-life diagrams. Methods for more reliable design of composite structures are presented. Lecturer Prof. Dr. Ramesh Talreja Tenneco Professor Texas A&M University, United States Talreja is currently a professor of aerospace engineering at Texas A&M University. He has previously taught at Georgia Tech for 10 years and at the Technical University of Denmark for 15 years. He has contributed extensively to the fields of damage, fatigue and failure of composite materials by authoring numerous books and book chap- ters as well as editing several encyclopedic works. Dr. Talreja has authored the monograph “Fatigue of Com- posite Materials”, and has edited several major works in- cluding “Polymer Matrix Composites”, “Damage Mecha- nics of Composite Materials” and “Multiscale Modeling and Simulation of Composite Materials and Structures”, as well as contributed chapters to numerous books. His book, “Damage and Failure of Composite Materials”, is appeared from Cambridge University Press in 2012. He is in the Editorial Boards of eight journals, and has ser- ved as Associate Editor of Mechanics of Materials and as Editor-in-Chief of International Journal of Aerospace Engineering.
